I went on an excursion recently, but my trip took me longer than I expected. Im going to Woodford Green, I said to the conductor as I got on the bus, but I dont know where it is. Ill tell you where to get off, answered the conductor. I sat in the front of the bus to get a good view of the countryside. After some time, the bus stopped. Looking round, I realized with a shock that I was the only passenger left on the bus. Youll have to get off here, the conductor said. This is as far as we go. Is this Woodford Green ? I asked. Oh dear, said the conductor suddenly. I forgot to put you off. It doesnt matter, I said. Ill get off here. We are going back now, said the conductor. Well, in that case, I prefer to stay on the bus, I answered.Lesson51 Reward for virtue 對美德的獎賞My friend, Herbert, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. He began his diet a week ago. First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the foods which were forbidden. Lesson52 A pretty carpet 漂亮的地毯We have just moved into a new house and I have been working hard all morning. I have been trying to get my new room in order. This has not been easy because I own over a thousand books. To make matters worse, the room is rather small, so I have temporarily put my books on the floor. At the moment, they cover every inch of floor space and I actually have to walk on them to get in or out of the room. A short while ago, my sister helped me to carry one of my old bookcases up the stairs. She went into my room and got a big surprise when she saw all those books on the floor. This is the prettiest carpet I have ever seen, she said. She gazed at it for some time then added, You dont need bookcases at all. You can sit here in your spare time and read the carpet! Lesson53 Hot snake 觸電的蛇At last firemen have put out a big forest fire in California. Since then, they have been trying to find out how the fire began. Forest fire are often caused by broken glass or by cigarette ends which people carelessly throw away. Yesterday the firemen examined the ground carefully, but were not able to find any broken glass. They were also quite sure that a cigarette end did not start the fire. This morning, however, a fireman accidentally discovered the cause. He noticed the remains of a snake which was wound round the electric wires of a 16,000-volt power line. In this way, he was able to solve the mystery. The explanation was simple but very unusual. A bird had snatched up the snake from the ground and then dropped it on to the wires. The snake then wound itself round the wires. When it did so, it sent sparks down to the ground and these immediately started a fire.Lesson54 Sticky fingers 粘糊的手指After breakfast, I sent the children to school and then I went to market. It was still early when I returned home. The children were at school, my husband was at work and the house was quiet. So I decided to make some tarts for tea. In a short time I was busy mixing butter and flour and my hands were soon covered with sticky pastry. At exactly that moment, the telephone rang. Nothing could have been more annoying. I picked up the receiver between two sticky fingers and was dismayed when I recognized the voice of Mrs Bates. It took me ten minutes to persuade her to ring back later. At last I hung up the receiver. What a mess! There was pastry on my fingers, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs. I had no sooner got back to the kitchen than the door-bell rang loud enough to wake the dead. This time it was the postman and he wanted me to sign for a registered letter !Lesson55 Not a gold mine 并非金礦Dreams of finding lost treasure almost came true recently. A new machine called The Revealer has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where-it is said-pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Armed with the new machine, a search party went he did not like it. She enjoyed herself making the assistant bring almost everything in the window before finally buying the dress she had first asked for.Lesson58 A blessing in disguise? 是因禍得福嗎？The tiny village of Frinley is said to possess a cursed tree. Because the tree was mentioned in a newspaper, the number of visitors to Frinley has now increased. The tree was planted near a church fifty years ago, but it is only in recent years that it has gained an evil reputation. It is said that if anyone touches the tree, he will have bad luck; if he picks a leaf, he will die. Many villagers believe that the tree has already claimed a number of victims. As the neighbours complained of the noise, my husband spent weeks training him to press his paw on the latch to let himself in. Rex soon became an expert at opening the gate. However, when I was going out shopping last week, I noticed him in the garden near the gate. This time he was barking so that someone would let him out ! Since then, he has developed another bad habit. As soon as he opens the gate from the outside, he comes into the garden and waits until the gate shuts. Then he sits and barks until someone lets him out. After this he immediately lets himself in and begins barking again. Yesterday my husband removed the gate and Rex got so annoyed we have not seen him since. Lesson60 The future 卜算未來At a village fair, I decided to visit a fortune-teller called Madam Bellinsky. I went into her tent and she told me to sit down. After I had given her some money, she looked into a crystal ball and said: A relation of yours is coming to see you. She will be arriving this evening and intends to stay for a few days. The moment you leave this tent, you will get a big surprise. A woman you know well will rush towards you. She will speak to you and then she will lead you away from this place. That is all. As soon as I went outside, I forgot all about Madam Bellinsky because my wife hurried towards me. Where have you been hiding ? she asked impatiently. Your sister will be here in less than an hour and we must be at the station to meet her. We are late already. As she walked away, I followed her out of the fair. Lesson61 Trouble with the Hubble 哈勃望遠鏡的困境In future, astronauts will be required to descend from a spaceship while it is still in space and to return to it. 3）農(nóng)耕文化廣場：占地10畝。體現(xiàn)歷史文化、地域特色和生態(tài)內涵。布置親切宜人的游客活動場所，配置完善的服務設施，滿足游客休閑游憩、娛樂等綜合性開放空間。 4）祥云廣場：占地5畝。位于園區(qū)景觀最高處，提供游客停車、休憩及公用設施，諸如：亭廊、坐凳、標志牌、垃圾箱以及各式圓燈等。以人性化設計為本，兼顧功能與美觀，體現(xiàn)綠色生態(tài)的現(xiàn)代化要求。 5）園路、亭閣：占地71畝。其中主園路36畝，次園路27畝，亭閣8畝。 4、娛樂活動區(qū)：占地78畝。 1）xxx人家集群：60棟，占地30畝。內設酒吧、棋牌室、健身器材，體現(xiàn)“人在綠中居、花在庭院開、魚在水中游、情到農(nóng)家來”的優(yōu)美環(huán)境，為游客提供健康娛樂、休閑養(yǎng)生的“世外桃源 ”，給游客一種高品位的精神享受。 4）嬉水園：占地25畝。座落在龍河灣農(nóng)業(yè)觀光園區(qū)蘆溝河谷，四周青山環(huán)抱，景色宜人，為游客提供夏日休閑娛樂場所。以自然景觀作襯景，疊泉、雕塑、音樂聲控噴泉，為嬉水園平添生趣。池邊建造巨樹古樹群、巨石奇石群和青松翠竹園，栽植忘憂草、檉柳、金絲柳、梧桐、石楠、木槿、紫薇、南天竺、紅葉李、金葉女貞等，在樹林 中設有帳篷、竹樓，供人們納涼、休憩，以方便游客周末、節(jié)假日休閑度假。 三、建設期限： 建設期為2年 四、建設內容： 1、2010年10月-2011年9月計劃重點建設基礎設施： （1）按功能規(guī)劃為生產(chǎn)體驗區(qū)、接待服務區(qū)、景觀游覽區(qū)、娛樂活動區(qū)和辦公管理區(qū)等，并進行具體分區(qū)； （2）興建生產(chǎn)體驗區(qū)； （3）修建工作人員辦公區(qū)、宿舍及小規(guī)模接待區(qū)； （4）修建園區(qū)道路、園門、集散廣場、供電及給排水等基礎設施，滿足生態(tài)觀光園交通、照明、動力等需要； （5）建設滴灌節(jié)水系統(tǒng)，發(fā)展果樹種植和間種農(nóng)作物； （6）將RFID（無線射頻識別技術）運用到安全管理和養(yǎng)殖業(yè)中，通過采用RFID技術建立飼養(yǎng)檔案、預防接種檔案等，達到高效、自動化管理珍禽的目的，同時為食品安全提供保障。 2、2011年10月-2012 年9月計劃重點建設多功能休閑園區(qū)： （1）興建集餐飲、棋牌、垂釣、休閑、游樂、園林綠化和鄉(xiāng)村情調于一體的多功能休閑園區(qū)。休閑園規(guī)劃結構為：xxx休閑區(qū)、水果采摘區(qū)、觀光植物區(qū)、觀景品茗區(qū)。 （2）運用現(xiàn)代化市場營銷手段，積極發(fā)展觀光采摘業(yè)。 3、建立綠色農(nóng)產(chǎn)品生產(chǎn)基地。 進行山地資源綜合開發(fā)，建立以立體種植和立體養(yǎng)殖為主的生態(tài)農(nóng)業(yè)高科技示范園，生產(chǎn)質優(yōu)價高的無公害瓜果蔬菜和畜禽肉類等。 4、建設農(nóng)業(yè)生態(tài)休閑觀光園。 在生態(tài)示范園的基礎上，立足生態(tài)園山青水秀、“綠色環(huán)?！币约吧鷳B(tài)園的休閑的特點，建造巨樹古樹群、巨石奇石群和青松翠竹園，充分利用生態(tài)園自然景觀，形成“可覽、可游、可居”的環(huán)境景觀和集“自然 生產(chǎn) 休閑 康樂 教育”于一體的景觀綜合體，發(fā)展體驗農(nóng)業(yè)與觀光農(nóng)業(yè)相結合的特色旅游。
