There were only a few people waiting, and 1 took out my wallet to find the receipt for my case. The receipt did not seem to be whereI had left it. I empt
28、ied the contents of the wallet, and railway tickets, money, scraps* of paper, and photographs tumbled* out of it; but no matter howhard 1 searched, the receipt was no where to be found.When my turn came, I explained the situation sorrowfullyto the assistant. The man looked at me suspiciously as if t
29、o say that he had heard this type of story many times and asked me to describe the case. I told him that it was an old, brow n-look ing object no differe nt from the many cases I could see on the shelves.The assistant then gave mea form and told meto makea list of the chief contents of the case. If
30、they were correct, he said, I could take the case away. I tried to remember all the articles I had hurriedly packed and wrote them dow n as they came to me. After I had done this, I went to look among the shelves. There were hun dreds of cases there and for one dreadful mome nt, it occurred to me th
31、at if some one had picked the receipt up, he could have easily claimed* the case already. This had not happened fortunately,for after a time, I found the case lyingon its side high up in a corner. After examining the articles in side, the assista nt was soon satisfied that it was mine and told meI c
