AppliedProgram:WirelessTelecommunicationsOnAugust27,2002,attheCentralInstituteoftheDatangTelecomTechnologyandIndustryGroupbasedinBeijing,ayoungwoman,fullofenergyandself-confidence,wasgivingapresentationentitled“TheDesignoftheSwitchingNumericalMethodoftheRadioResourceManagement(RRM)StrategyinTD-SCDMA,andtheTestingofItsSimulatedSystems,”whichreceivedraptattentionandhighremarksfromalltheexpertsinComputerandTelecommunicationswhoattendedthemeeting.ThatwomanwasI.Atpresent,TD-SCDMA,W-CDMA,andCDMA2000areconsideredthemaintechnologicalstandardsinthethirdgenerationoftheworld’stechnologicaldevelopmentinmobiletelecommunications.AndthedesignofaswitchingcomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategyisakeyelementandtechnologicalcruxfortheTD-SCDMAtechnology.Inretrospection,Ifoundthatitwasmygreatenthusiasmformobiletelecommunications,andmypersistentpursuitofaccuracyandperfectionthathavehelpedmewinaccoladesfromcolleaguesandexperts.InChina,sincetheTD-SCDMAusesasmartantenna,itmakesademandforafinerresearchonthecomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategy,inareassuchasPC,DCA,andHC.Tome,anewstarterinthecompany,itwasarealchallenge.Sincetheresearchteamwasnew,itlackedengineeringdataandpracticalexperience,althoughtheequipmentofthelabwasquiteadvanced.Itwasonlyaftermuchlibraryresearch,thinking,andconsultationwithexpertsdidIfindaRRMcomputationmethodsuitableforasmartantenna.BecauseasmartantennahasitsadvantagesofamoreaccurateVElocatingandreducedsearchingareas,thiscomputationmethodeffectivelylowersthecomplexityoftheswitchingprocessanditsfailurerate.DuringthetimewhenIworkedfortheproject,Ioftenstayedupseveraldaysinarolltoperfectalabtest.ButIalsoderivedanenormoussenseofsatisfactionandfulfillmentafterovercomingobstacles,whichmorethancompensatedthepainsanddifficultiesthatIhadtogothrough.Therapiddevelopmentofmobiletelecommunicationtechnologyplacesahighdemandonprofessionalsworkinginthisfield.Toacertainextent,ithastobealaboroflove.Mykeeninterestinmobiletelecommunicationsemanatedfromtheconceptof“personalcommunication.”DuringmyundergraduateyearsattheNorthwestUniversityofIndustry,Ispentmuchofmysparetimebrowsingoverprofessionalpublicationsandjournals,tokeepmyselfabreastofcurrentdevelopments.Theconceptof“personalcommunication”Iencounteredduringthisprocessimpressedmeimmensely.Asystemof“personalcommunication”isonethatallowstheusertocommunicateatanytime,anyplace,toanyone,andinanyway.ItpaintedsuchabeautifulofpictureofafuturesocietythatIbecamefullyconvincedthatitisasubjectwellworthmylifelongpursuit.ThiswaswhyIchoseMobileTelecommunicationsasmyareaofspecializationinthegraduateprogram.Asagraduatestudent,Icompletedseveralresearchprojectsindependentlyandsuccessfully,including,forinstance,“TurboCodeandtheApplicationofItsCodingConcept.”Inshortframeconditions,theTurboCode,withitsimprovedapplicationinengineering,seemstohaveabrightfutureinreal-timevoice-dataservice(Pleaseseetheattachedarticle).Aftercompletingmygraduatedegree,IenteredDatangGroup,apioneerinChina’ssoftwaredevelopment.HereIdidsoftwaredesignfortheswitchcontroltemplateusedattheRNCequipmentfortheTD-SCDMAsystem,anddevelopedaswitchingcomputationmethodfortheRRMStrategy.IwentthroughtheentireprocessofsoftwaredesignfortheswitchcontroltemplatefortheRNCequipment,fromtopicanalysistotheprojectoutlineandthentoactualprogramwriting.Thepresentdevelopmentoftelecommunicationtechnologyindicatesthatthesmartantenna,softwareradio,andthetransmissiontechnologyofsubline下行high-speedsubdividedexchangedata(下行高速分組交換數(shù)據(jù)傳輸技術(shù))arekeytechnologiesfortoday’smobiletelecommunications.Softwareradio,inparticular,hasattractedmuchpublicattention.TheuseofDSPandsoftwaretosolvetheproblemofwirelessinterfacesofdiversestandardsonapublichardwareplatformhasbecomeamajorissuepursuedbymanyprofessionalsinourfield.Itoohopetomakemyowncontributiontothetechnologicaldevelopmentinthisarea.Inthenextfewyears,thetraditionalconceptofusingchipstobuildwirelessequipmentformobiletelecommunicationwillbeseriouslychallenged.Inrecentyears,thetechnologiesandstandardsofthethirdgenerationofmobiletelecommunicationhavebeenrapidlyupdated.Softwareradio,Ibelieve,willbethefutureofourtrade.Mydesiretoknowmoreaboutcomputerengineeringpromptedmetoriseabovemypresentconditions.TheUnitedStates,astechnologicalsuperpower,havefirst-rateteachingfacultyandresearchfacilitiesintheworld.ItsideologicalopennessandtolerancemakeasharpcontrasttoChineseculture,whichtendstovaluetraditionratherthaninnovation.Wirelesstelecommunicationmaybesaidtobeoneofthenewestresearchareas,anditisnewconceptsandnewvisionthatgivelifetotheindustry.IbelievethatinthefineresearchenvironmentintheUnitedStates,Iwillbeabletomake“shortcuts”inattainingmyacademicandcareergoals.IwouldliketoapplyforadmissiontotheCenterforWirelessTelecommunicationsofVirginiaPolytechnicInstituteandStateIlookforwardtofindingateachingpositionatcollegelevelinChinaaftercompletingmygraduateeducation,whichwillallowmetocontinuemyresearchworkinWirelessTelecommunications.Iwillimpartmytheoreticandpracticalknowledgetomystudents,andhopethatthiswillbenefitChina’swirelesstelecommuni Ifwedream,everythingwillbepossible.Inretrospect,Ihavemuchtobeproudof.Asa10-year-oldteenager,Iwasalreadyobsessedofpaintingtheconcreteformsofmydreamswiththebrushinmyhand.Atsuchayoungage,Ihadalreadylearnedthenecessitytopracticepaintingdeepintothenightinordertoachieveconstantimprovementinthesophisticationofmybrushwork.Myendowmentsandmydedicationhelpedmesecurethreemajorprizesatinternationaladolescentfineartcompetitions.Mysubstantialprogressinpracticingfineartalsoopenedthedoortodevelopingmyperceptivehorizonandtotappingmytremendouspotential.Asaresult,Ihandledmystudieswithmuchfacility,especiallyinmathematicsforwhichIhadaparticularpenchant.Nomatterhowdifficultthecoursesinmyhighschoolwere,Icouldalmostinvariablyachievefullmarksinallofthem.Apartfromvirtuallyperfectperformanceinthescholasticaptitudesatmyschool,Iachievedremarkablescoresinavarietyofnationalcontestsforhighschoolstudentsinmathematics,physics,andchemistry.ThosedistinguishedachievementsresultedinmybeingenrolledbyTsinghuaUniversity,exemptedfromentranceexamination.InOnthewaytotherealizationofyourdreams,thereisnosubstituteforhardwork
TeamworkfulfillyourdreamseasilyUponenteringthismostprestigiousuniversityinChina,whichisTsinghuaInthescorchingsummerof1999,withanentrepreneurialpassionthatwasmuchmorevehementthanthescorchingsun,twoclassmatesandIcommencedtoestablishourownbusinessandtooperateourowncompany.Byanyimagination,itwasachallengingundertaking.Wefocusedonthedevelopmentofonlinemultimediaentertainmentplatformandontheresearchanddevelopmentofvirtualreality(VC)technology.IntheprocessofdevelopingthesoftwarefortheVCproducts,weencounteredthemajorobstacleofhowtorealizeglobularequationofthepicturesactuallytakenoftherealobjects.Undermyorganizationandleadership,thetaskteam,whichconsistedofanumberofseniorundergraduatesandgraduates,consultedahugeamountoftechnicalliterature,solicitedprofessionalguidancefromspecialistsinthefield,conductedsurveysandinterviews,analyzedfeedbacks,andwrotebusinessproposals.Itwascommonformetosleeponlyfourhoursaday.Weworkedundertheconvictionthat,evenifwefailed99times,wewouldbeultimatelyvictoriousifwecouldsucceedinthe100thtrial.Anynotionofdefeatismwouldcauseonetorelinquishandendupineternalfailure.Withintwomonths,weeventuallysucceededindevelopingthesemisphericequationalgorithmwhoseeffectcouldperfectlyparalleltheglobularequationalgorithmofthesoftware.Inautumn,theseasonofharvest,wewonthePrizeforExcellentOriginalConceptualizationattheannualEntrepreneurialCompetitionwiththebusinessproposalbasedonthisproject.Inthemeantime,wesucceededinattractingarisk,investmentworth5millionRMB(approximately600000USdollars).Theimmediateinfusionofthecashintoourcompanyguaranteedtheoverallinaugurationofourcompany.Intheinitialstageofestablishingourbusiness,weforesawthattheVCtechnologywouldmaketremendousheadwayinthefuturenetworkapplication.Theproblemwefacedatthattimewasthelimitedbandwidthofthenetwork,whichinturncircumscribedthedevelopmentofVCtechnology.Afternearlyone-yeardevelopment,ourtechnologyhasbecomeincreasinglymature.Furthermore,ourcollaborationwithBritainsRotographyCompanyhasacquainteduswithsomerefreshinglyconstructiveconcepts.WiththecontinuedimprovementoftheChinasdomesticnetworkenvironment,wehaveformallyinitiatedserialservicestoourclientsintheapplicationofVCtechnology.Inthisprocess,ourcompanyswebsiteforsupplyingtechnicalservicewasconsummated.Sofar,manymanufacturersavailedthemselvesofourVCsolutions,includingBeijingGarmentManufacturingFactory,thelargestofitskindinBeijing.Meanwhile,IparticipatedinaseminaronthedevelopmentofnetworkvirtualpassageVPNprojectjointlyundertakenbyZhejiangUniversityandNingPoGoldenLeaveInformationTechnologyCompany.ByconductingasurveyofU.S.VPNmarketandbystudyingVPNtechnology,Ipresentedsomeuniqueinsightsofmyownattheseminar,whichwerepositivelyevaluatedbycomputerspecialistsfromWithourproductsstartedtoincreasethemarketshare,thereputationofourcompanybecameincreasinglywidespread.Asaburgeoningcompany,wemanaged,throughfiercebidding,tosecureaprojectofDemonstrationSystemfromSonyCompany.Thoughfinallytheprojectdidnottakelongtocomplete,thesuccessofwinningthefirstprojectthroughtenderexcitedthewholegroupofyoungentrepreneurs.Atpresent,inreactiontothestrongdemandsforinformationconcerningrubbermarketbymorethan20000manufacturersandrelatedenterprises,ourcompanyiscooperatingwithReuterAgencyandInformationHeadquarterofChinaNationalRubberIndustryindevelopinganddesigningChinaRubberBusinessWebsite,whichaimsatprovidingthemostupdatedglobalrubberinformationfordomesticrubbermanufacturersandultimatelyrealizingtheB2BbusinessplatformforChinasrubberindustry.Thisisanewly-emergingfieldwhichintegratesconventionalindustrywithITindustry,thusrequiringrichprofessionalknowledgeandexperienceinconventionalsectoraswellaspowerfulandcomprehensiveanalyticalandproblem-solvingcapability.Undersuchcircumstances,Iamforcedtoaugmentmyknowledgeinatotallystrangeprofessionwithintheshortestpossibletime.ButIknowthatwith,myusualconfidence,Iwillsurmountthischallenge.Ifwecandreamit,wecandoit.
