Introduction

TheUnit3lessonplanisdesignedtoteachthe6th-gradestudentsthevocabularyandsentencestructurerequiredtodescribetheirweekendplans.Thelessonisacontinuationofthepreviousunitwherestudentslearnedaboutfreetime,hobbies,andintereststheycanenjoyduringtheirleisurehours.

Thislessonplanwillfocusonvocabularyrelatedtoweekendactivityplanningandsentencestructureusedtocommunicatesuchplans.Thegoalistoenablestudentstoexpresstheirplans,andtheirreasonsbehindtheirchosenactivities,insimpleandunderstandableEnglishsentences.

Procedure

Warm-upActivity(10minutes)

Thegoalofthisactivityistopreparethestudentsforthelessonbyrevisingtheirunderstandingofhobbiesandinterests.Theteacherwillpresentasetofpicturestothestudentsandaskthemtosaythenameoftheactivityshown.Theteachercanthenusetheresponsetotheimageasaspringboardtoengagethestudents’interests,assesstheirknowledge,andencourageparticipation.

IntroductiontoVocabulary(15minutes)

Theteacherwillintroduceweekendplanningvocabularytothestudentsbyusingprintedworksheets.Theteacherwillexplaineachwordontheworksheetanddemonstratetheirmeanings.Thisactivitywillprovidestudentswithanopportunitytoseethewordsandrelatethemtotheirrespectivemeanings.

CreatingSentencesUsingVocabulary(30minutes)

Theteacherwillinstructthestudentstousethenewlylearnedvocabularytowritesentencesthatdescribetheirweekendplans.Theteacherwilldemonstratetwoorthreesentencestotheclasstoprovideatemplateforsentencestructure.Theteachercanintroduceafewadjectivestoencouragestudentstoinfusetheirsentenceswithdescriptivelanguage.

GroupActivity(20minutes)

Dividethestudentsintosmallgroupsofthreeorfour.Theinstructorwillgiveeachgroupascenario,andtheywillhavetoworktogethertocomeupwithaplantospendtheirweekend.Thescenariocaninvolveasituationwheretheymuststicktoabudgetorasituationwheretheycandoanythingtheywant.TheteachercanencouragestudentstospeakinEnglishasmuchaspossible.

Wrap-upActivity(10minutes)

Theteacherwillaskthestudentstosharetheirscenarioswiththeclass.Bysharingtheirideaswiththeclass,thestudentswillhavethechancetopracticespeakingEnglishaloudwhilepracticingtheirlisteningskills.
