Normally,ifalivingcreatureisfrozen,thecellsinside

itsbodyaredestroyed,leadingtodeath.How,then,doesthe

woodfrogsurvive?Thesecretliesinthefactthatalthough

thewaterbetweenthecellsinthefrog,sbodybecomesfrozen,

thewaterinsidethecellsdoesnotfreeze.Beforethewinter

begins,thefrogstoresstarchinitsbody.Astheweathergets

colder,thedropintemperaturecausesthefrog'sbodyto

changethisstarchintoglucose(葡萄糖).Thisglucose,inturn,

lowersthetemperatureatwhichtheliquidinsidethefrog,s

cellsfreezes.Asaresult,thecellsdonotfreezeevenatvery
