1Scope

Thisstandardstatestheclassification,typeofstructure,technicalrequirements,testmethodsandsoonof

theexternalcircuit-breakersforelectricitymeters(hereinafterreferredtoascircuit-breaker).

Thisstandardappliestoa.c.circuit-breakerforoperationat50Hz,60Hzor50/60Hz,hacingarated

voltagenotexceedingAC400?V,aratedcurrentnotexceeding125?A,andratedshort-circuitbreaking

capacitynotlessthan6000?A.

4.1Classification

4.2.16Pollutiondegree

Circuit-breakerstothisstandardareintendedforenvironmentwithpollutiondegree2,i.e.normallyonly

non-conductivepollutionoccurs;occasionally,however,atemporaryconductivitycausedbycondensation

maybeexpected.

5Constructionalrequirements

5.1General

Circuit-breakersshallbesodesignedandconstructedthat,innormaluse,theirperformanceisreliableand

withoutdangertotheuserorsurroundings.Complianceischeckedbycarryingoutalltherelevanttests

specified.

5.2Appearance

Metalpartsofthecircuitbreakershallbeadequatelyplatedandcoatedagainstrusting.Metalpartsshall

nothavecracks,pittingorpeeling.Thesurfaceoftheplasticpartsshallbesmoothwithoutblisters,cracks,

dents,orotherdefects.

Externalpartswhichareaccessiblewhenoperatingthecircuit-breakershallbemadeofinsulating

material.

5.3Operatingmechanism

Theoperatingmechanismofacircuitbreakershallmeetthefollowingrequirements:

a)Theoperatingpartsmustbeflexibleandreliable,anditshallhaveatrip-freemechanism;

b)Forautomaticcontrolapoweroperatingmechanismshallbeprovided;

c)Themovingcontactscancometorestonlyintheclosedoropenposition,eveniftheoperating

memberistrippedinanintermediateposition

d)Thecircuitbreakershallbeprovidedwithanoperatinghandleformanuallyopeningandclosing,the

operatinghandlemustbesecuredreliably;

e)Goodinsulationbetweenoperatinghandleandlivepartsshouldberealizedtoensuresafety;

f)Themovingcontactsofallpolesofmultipolecircuitbreakersshallbesomechanicallycoupledthat

allpoles,excepttheswitchedneutral,makeandbreaksubstantiallytogether,evenifanoverload

occursononeprotectedpoleonly.

g)Theswitchedneutralpole,ifavailable,shallnotcloseafterandshallnotopenbeforetheprotected

poles;

h)Ifapolehavinganappropriateshortcircuitmakingandbreakingcapacityisusedasaneutralpole,

andthecircuitbreakerisindependentofmanualoperation,allpolesincludetheneutralpolemay

operatesubstantiallytogether;

i)Exceptinmanualcontrolmode,whenreceivingatripcommand,theacircuitbreakershall

openautomaticallyandthemovingcontactsshallstayintheopenposition,andcouldn’tbeclosed

manually;

j)Abreakerunderclosingcommandshallallowmanuallyopenorclose.Afteropening,itshallstayin

openpositionincaseofapower-offandreenergizing;

Foracircuitbreakersupportingautomaticcontrolmode,theautomaticclosingmoduleshallemployatotally

enclosedconstructionwithinnershaftdriving,torealizeautomaticclosingfunctionandtoensuremoving

contactsstayintheopenpositionwhenmanuallyclosingabreakwhichisinopenstate.

5.4Isolationprotection

Eachpoleofcircuit-breakersshallreliablybreakintheopenposition.Circuit-breakersshallprovidein

theopenpositionanisolationdistanceinaccordancewiththerequirementsnecessarytosatisfytheisolating

function.Indicationoftheopenandclosedpositionofthemaincontactsshallbeprovidedbybothofthe

followingmeans:

a)thepositionoftheactuator;

b)aseparatemechanicalindicator.

5.5(Mechanicalindicatorandactuator)

Indicationoftheopenandclosedpositionofthemaincontactsshallbeprovided.

Itshallbepossibletoswitchthecircuit-breakeronandoffbyhand.Amechanicalindicatorisusedto

indicatethepositionofthecontacts,thisshallshowthesymbol“|”(or“closed”,“ON”,“red”)fortheclosed

positionandthesymbol“○”(or“open”,“OFF”,“green”)fortheopenposition(OFF).

Indicationofthecontactpositionshallbereliable.

Circuit-breakersshallbedesignedsothattheactuator,frontplateorcovercanonlybecorrectlyfittedina

mannerwhichensurescorrectindicationofthecontactposition.

5.6Modeselectionswitch

Forcircuit-breakerswithsemi-automaticandautomaticcontrolmode,amodeswitchshallbeprovidedin

thefronttoselectsemi-automaticcontrolmodeandremoteautomaticcontrolmode.

Modeswitchshallbedesignedonthefrontalsideofthecircuit-breaker,andwiththeidentificationof

“Automatic”and“Manual”forindicatingthemodeatpresent.

Protectionmeasuresshallbetakentopreventthemodeswitchfromtamperinganditshallnotbe

possibletoselectamodewithouttheaidofatool.

5.7Screws,current-carryingpartsandconnections

5.7.1Screwsandconnections

Connections,whetherelectricalormechanical,shallwithstandthemechanicalstressesoccurringin

normaluse.

5.7.2Electricalconnections

Electricalconnectionsshallbesodesignedthatcontactpressureisnottransmittedthroughinsulating

materialotherthanceramic,puremicaorothermaterialwithcharacteristicsnolesssuitable,unlessthereis

sufficientresilienceinthemetallicpartstocompensateforanypossibleshrinkageoryieldingoftheinsulating

material.

5.7.3Current-carryingpartsandconnections

Current-carryingpartsincludingpartsintendedforprotectiveconductorsshallbemadeof

——copper;

——analloycontainingatleast58%copperforpartsworkedcold,oratleast50%copperforother

parts;

——othermetalorsuitablycoatedmetal,nolessresistanttocorrosionthancopperandhaving

mechanicalpropertiesnolesssuitable.

Note:

Incaseofusingferrousalloysorsuitablycoatedferrousalloys,compliancetoresistancetocorrosionis

checkedbyatestofresistancetorusting.Therequirementsofthissubclausedonotapplytocontacts,

magneticcircuits,heaterelements,bimetals,shunts,partsofelectronicdevicesortoscrews,nuts,washers,

clampingplates,similarpartsofterminalsandpartsofthetestcircuit.

5.8Terminalsforexternalconductors

Terminalsforexternalconductorsshallbesuchthattheconductorsmaybeconnectedsoastoensurethat

thenecessarycontactpressureismaintainedpermanently.Connectionarrangementsintendedforbusbar

connectionareadmissible,providedtheyarenotusedfortheconnectionofcables.Sucharrangementsmaybe

ofthebolt-ontype.Theterminalsshallbereadilyaccessibleundertheintendedconditionsofuse.

Circuit-breakersshallbeprovidedwithterminalswhichshallallowtheconnectionofcopperconductors

havingnominalcross-sectionalareasasshowninTable3.

Foracurrentratingnotspecified,ifrequired,complianceischeckedbyrelevantnationalstandards.

Itisrequiredthat,forcurrentratingsuptoandincluding50A,terminalsbedesignedtoclampsolidconductorsandrigid

strandedconductors,flexibleconductorsmayalsobeused.

Themeansforclampingtheconductorsintheterminalsshallnotservetofixanyothercomponent.

Terminalsshallbesofixedorlocatedthat,whentheclampingscrewsornutsaretightenedorloosened,

theterminalsshallnotworkloosefromtheirfixingstocircuit-breakers.

Clampingscrewsornutsofterminalsintendedfortheconnectionofprotectiveconductorsshallbe

adequatelysecuredagainstaccidentalloosening.

Pillarterminalsshallallowfullinsertionandreliableclampingoftheconductor.

Complianceischeckedbyinspectionafterarigidconductorofthelargestcross-sectionalareaspecified

fortherelevantratedcurrentinTable3hasbeenfullyinsertedandfullyclampedbyapplyingthetorques

accordingtoTable4.

linetransientlyduringtheopeningandclosingoperations.Theleakagecurrentofphaseaftertheclosingor

openingoperationshallcomplywiththerequirementsof4.2.13and4.2.14respectively.

ThefeedbacksignalisanAC220Vsignal.Thefeedbacksignalispoweredbythephaselinefor

single-phasecircuit-breakers.Forthree-phasecircuit-breakersthefeedbacksignalispoweredbythreephases

andshallensureproperfeedbackevenunderanyonephaseloss..

Thecontrolwireandthefeedbacksignalwireshallhaveacross-sectionalareanolessthan0.3?mm2,with

crimpedlugsatbothendstopreventinverseconnection.Specificationsmaybeinaccordancewiththe

manufacturer'sinstructions.

5.10Protectionagainstelectricshock

Circuit-breakersshallbesodesignedthat,whentheyaremountedandwiredasfornormaluse,liveparts

arenotaccessible.Externalparts,otherthanscrewsorothermeansforfixingcoversandlabels,shalleitherbe

ofinsulatingmaterialorbelinedthroughoutwithinsulatingmaterial,unlessthelivepartsarewithinan

internalenclosureofinsulatingmaterial.

Liningsshallbefixedinsuchawaythattheyarenotlikelytobelostduringinstallationofthe

circuit-breakers.Theyshallhaveadequatethicknessandmechanicalstrengthandshallprovideadequate

protectionatplaceswheresharpedgesoccur.

Inletopeningsforcablesorconduitsshalleitherbeofinsulatingmaterialorbeprovidedwithbushingsor

similardevicesofinsulatingmaterial.Suchdevicesshallbereliablyfixedandshallhaveadequatemechanical

strength.

Metallicoperatingmeansshallbeinsulatedfromlivepartsandtheirexposedconductivepartsshallbe

coveredbyinsulatingmaterial.Thisrequirementdoesnotapplytomeansforcouplinginsulatedoperating

meansofseveralpoles.Metalpartsofthemechanismshallnotbeaccessible.
