ResearchExperienceInthesecondyearofmygraduatestudies,IbegantoworkasresearchassistantofProfessorDachengYang,arenownedexpertindigitalandmobilecommunicationResearchandDesignCenterofMinistryofPostsandTelecommunications.Afterlearningthebackground,application,principle,andadvantageofCDMA,IselectedthesignalingdesignoftheCDMABaseStationInterfaceasmyresearchtopic.IevaluatedandstudiedtheprotocolsIS-95,IS-634andtheULTRAinterfaceprotocolsofLucent.ApplyingsoftwareengineeringmethodandOriented-Objectapproach,IdesignedtheinternalinterfaceofBaseStationSystembetweenBSCandBTS-Abisinterface,whichisoneofthemostimportantpartsofsuchalargeandsophisticatedproject.ThenreferringtoprotocolsLAPD/LAPF,integratingthelatestknowledgeandusingonestep.Byworkingonthisproject,IlearnedmoreaboutCDMA,GSMandothermobilecommunicationssystems.LaterIfeltsoproudtohearwhatIhaddonewasdownloadedtotheboardandthedesignranflawlessly.

PurposeofStudyIlearngreedily,butthemoreIamtrained,themoredeeplyIrealizewhatIlearnedearlierisnotenough.Ihavenotgotachancetoleadamajorproject,althoughIhavebeenmovingonasmoothcareerpathandalwaysfinishedmypartofeveryprojectimmaculately.Asafemaleengineer,Imustlearnmoretocompetewithmostmaleengineerstoleadamajorproject.Andinspiteofallmyachievements,IfeelthatIhavenotbroughtmyintellectualcapabilitiesintofullplay.SoIdesiretoenteryouresteemeduniversitytopursueadvancedstudiessothatIcanlayasolidfoundationformyfutureresearchwork.Inthemeantime,IwillbeabletoimprovemyEnglish,andIhopethatsomedayIcanspeakEnglishaswellasChinese.

IbelieveIhaveacquiredthenecessarytheoreticalframeworkandpracticalexperienceforadvancedstudies.Equippedwiththeabilitytoteachmyselfandconductindependentresearch,IwillbeabletoattaincompetencequicklyinareasthatImayatfirstknowverylittleabout.Ineverworkjusttofinishanassignment,butinsteadIalwaystryconscientiouslytolearnasmuchaspossibleandsharpenmyexpertisethroughtheworkIdo.Keepingthisworkstyle,Ihavebecomehighlyskilledinsuchfieldsasswitchingsystem'strunkingsystem(communicationsandsoftware),CodeDivisionMultipleAccesssystem(mobilecommunicationsandsoftware),SDT&TTCN(CASEandtesttools),andpSOS+system(real-timeoperationsystem).Theseachievementswouldbeagreathelpinmypursuitofadvancededucation,especiallywhenIcanworkundertheseasonedguidanceofyourstrongfaculty.MypreviousexperiencewillqualifymefortheTAandRApositionsofyouruniversityaswell.
