LuXunisoneofthegreatestChinesewritersofthe20thcentury.Besideshisfamous

stories,healsowrotemanyinfluentialarticlesaboutthelivingconditionsofChinese

studyinJapan.There,hebeganwritingarticlesforseveralChinesestudent

magazines.Heshowedagiftforwritingandtranslatingandheevenwroteseveral

books,althoughnonewaspopular.HereturnedtoChinain1909becausehewasinneed

ofmoney.

AfterworkingforseveralyearsasateacherinBeijing,LuXunagainreturnedto

writing.In1918,hewrotehisfamousshortstoryDiaryofaMadman.Itwasthefirst

Chinesenovelpublishedusingtheeverydaylanguagethatpeoplespoke,whichhelped

makeitagreatsuccess.This,togetherwithhisnovelTheTrueStoryofAhQ(1921),

madeLuXunaleadingChinesewriter.

Althoughsuccessful,LuXunstillworriedgreatlyaboutChina*sfuture.In1926,he

movedtoShanghaiandgaveupwritingstoriesinordertodevotehimselftowhathe

called"penwarfare".Henowonlywrotearticleswhichcalledonthepeopletofight

againstthegovernment.Forthis,thegovernmentstoppedhimfrompublishingany

morebooks.Hewasforcedtowritehisarticlesusingfalsenames.
