anduseanoveltechniquetoanalysethem.Becausesomebankruptcyjudgesaremoremerciful

thanothers,peopleinsimilarstraitsmayendupwithdifferentbankruptcydecisions.Thisquirk

allowssomeusefulcomparisons.

MessrsDobbieandSongarguethateasierbankruptcylawshavegoodmicroeconomiceffects.If
