Isuddenlyunderstood.Peoplewerepayingforanextracoffeesothatthosewhocouldn’taffordacupofcoffeecouldhaveoneforfree.
IlearnedlaterthatthistraditionhadbeguninNaples,butithasnowspreadallovertheworld.Insomeplacesyoucanordernotonlyasuspendedcoffee,butalsosuspendedsnacks,sandwichesandevenwholemeals!
Intoday’sfast-pacedsociety,peopleseemtohavelessandlesstimetocareforeachother.Socialbehaviorslikesuspendedcoffeehelpsolvethisproblem,aswellasmakingiteasierforpeopletoexpresstheirnaturalgenerosityandkindnesstoothers.

So,inAlice’scase,evenbeforeshespeaks,shemaybecommunicatingallkindsofthingstocustomers.Forexample,ifherarmsarecrossedandshe’savoidingeyecontact,customersmaynotfindhertobeveryapproachable.
However,Alicecouldbeinafriendlymoodeventhoughherbodylanguagesuggestsotherwise,andthisisn’tnecessarilyaconsciouschoicethatshe’smade.Thiscouldjustbehowshehabituallypresentsherself.ButifAliceisawareofthesehabits,shecanworkonimprovingherbodylanguage.
Changingyourhabitscanbedifficult,butifyoutaketimetopauseandcheckinwithyourself,youcanstarttonoticethemandadjustthingstobecomeabetternon-verbalcommunicator.Thisawarenesscanalsobeappliedtoreadingothers’bodylanguage.
