For the ancient Chinese, the purpose of clothes was not just for protecting and covering the body, but for showing profound meanings which preva

Thus, observing the development of clothes gives us a chance to understand their society, economy, culture, and even their mentality.,ABSTRACT Qin and Han Dynasty Tang and Song Dynasty Ming and Qing Dynasty Nowdays,Qin and Han Dynasty A suit of clothes: a long top part with a belt a

In Chinas history, the Tang Dynasty was a period when the polity and economy were highly developed and the culture and art were thriving.,Forms of garments were still the continuation of the Han Dynasty and the Sui Dynasty More influenced

6、by cultures and arts of the Western Regions. The influences of Hufu were gradually weakened and womens garments became broad and loose day by day.,How to dress in Tang Dynasty? With a belt fastened above the breast. Colors mostly came in red, purple, yellow and green. Women would put on an additiona

7、l dress made of transparent silk.,The clothing materials were exquisite, the structure was natural, graceful and elegant, and adornments were splendid. Features : Luxurious beautiful Elegant,Song Dynasty,Affected by the thoughts of li xue, the clothes of Song dynasty were usually plain. Most of vest

8、ments were big sleeve. They used different colors of clothes to tell their status.,Womens clothes of Song dynasty were very similar to those of Han dynasty. They were long dresses with narrow sleeves.,Yuan Dynasty,More and more gorgeous and featured on robe. Wore a wide-brimmed rain hat in summer Wo

9、re fur coat, leather boot and leather hat in winter. Many of mandarins clothes were robe had narrow sleeves,Ming Dynasty,The costume in Ming Dynasty basically followed the style of Tang and Song Dynasties, but there were some differences in sizes of shirt and skirt. Narrow sleeved shirt, long skirt

10、and manteau prevailed in the early years of Ming Dynasty. Broad long sleeved shirt and short skirt prevailed in the middle years of Ming Dynasty. While in the late of Ming Dynasty, the narrow long sleeved shirt was popular with women. The styles of the costume were the imitation of the dress of coco

11、tte, which traits were plain and elegant.,Men in Ming Dynasty wore long robes.,Women s clothes were feat body. They just could wear light color but couldnt wear deep red and yellow. However, clothes of ladies were fit and slender, such as long coat and long skirt. They would wear pleated skirt, long

12、 vest and shawl.,Qing Dynasty,Manchu liked riding-shoot, their sleeves of robe were looked like a horses hoof. The gown had been wore out of the robe, whether men or women could wear it. In ancient times, it generally referred to long gowns worn by the people of Manchuria, Mongolia and the Eight-Banner.,The gown had fou

17、r slits, with one on the left, right, front and back, which reached the knees. It was fitted to the body and rather warm. Fastened with a waistband, the long gown could hold solid food and utensils when people went out hunting.,The Development of Cheongsam,The cheongsam came from the Manchus of Nuzh

18、en tribes(女真部落). In the early 17th century, Nurhachi(努爾哈赤) unified the various Nuzhen tribes and set up the Eight Banners Systerm. Over the years ,a collarless, tube shaped gown was developed, which was worn by both men and women. That is the embryo of the Qipao.,The cheongsam goes Mainstream,It can

19、 be wore in many situations ,such as social gatherings、weddings, and so on,suggesting that it has became the national dress. It is something of a vogue at home and abroad.
