manhattan”可知這兩個人走在時代廣場附近,而且從后面第四段中的“and then walked across the street to a big cement plant”可知,他們是在大街(street)上走著。 17c結(jié)合前面的“cars were honking”和后面的“and the sounds of the city were almost _18_”可知這里的出租車也發(fā)出大的響聲。 18a從后面第二段中的“you couldnt possibly hear a cricket in all of this _20_!” 20b結(jié)合前面汽車和出租車等發(fā)出的噪音以及“the sounds of the city were almost deafening”可知,這位朋友認(rèn)為印第安人不可能在這樣的噪音中聽到蟋蟀的叫聲。 21c根據(jù)前面的“i hear a cricket.” patiently“耐心地”;silently“默默地”;nervously“焦慮不安地”。 24b根據(jù)前面的“he looked into the bushes, beneath the branches”可知,他仔細(xì)地查看灌木叢的里面和樹枝的下面,終于找到了蟋蟀的藏身之地,locate“找出的準(zhǔn)確位置”符合題意。 26a根據(jù)前面的“you must have superhuman ears.” 29c結(jié)合文章的最后一句話“it all depends on whats important to you.” impressive“給人以強(qiáng)烈或良好印象的”,extraordinary“非凡的”,necessary“必要的”。30a根據(jù)后面的“pulled out a few coins”可知印第安人把手伸進(jìn)口袋里,拿出了幾枚硬幣,所以選a項(xiàng),reach into“伸進(jìn)”。而get into“(使)陷入”,break into“強(qiáng)行闖入”,cut into“削減,打斷”,表示的意義均與語境不符。 33c結(jié)合后面的“l(fā)ook to see if the money that tinkled on the _34_ was theirs”可知,聽見了錢幣落地的聲音,人們都回過頭來看是不是自己掉了錢。 34a根據(jù)前面的“discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk”中的“sidewalk”可知此處應(yīng)選a項(xiàng)。 .閱讀理解ive always known my kids use digital communications gear (裝置) a lot. but my cellphone bill last month really grabbed my attention. my son had come up to nearly 2,000 incoming text messages, and had sent nearly as many. of course, he was out of school for the summer and communicating more with friends from a distance. nevertheless, he found time to hold down a summer job and complete a college course in between all that typing with his thumb. i was even more surprised to learn that my son is normal. teenagers with cellphones each send and receive 2,272 text messages a month on average, nielsen mobile says. some experts regret that all that keyboard jabber is making our kids stupid, unable to read nonverbal cues such as facial expressions, gestures, posture and other silent signals of mood and attitude. unlike phones, text messaging doesnt even allow transmission of tone of voice or pauses, says mark bauerlein author of a book called the dumbest generation: how the digital age stupefies young americans and jeopardizes (危害) our future. beyond that, though, im not sure i see as much harm as critics of this trend. ive posted before on how i initially tried to control my kids texting. but over time, i have seen my son suffer no apparent ill effects, and he gains a big benefit, of easy, continuing contact with others. i dont think texting make kids stupid. it may make them annoying, when they try to text and talk to you at the same time. and it may make them distracted,_when buzzing text messages interrupt efforts to noodle out a math problem or finish reading for school. but i dont see texting harming teens ability to communicate. my son is as accustomed to nonverbal cues as any older members of our family. i have found him more engaged and easier to communicate with from a great distance, because he is constantly available via text message and responds with faithfulness and speed.36. what does the underlined word “distracted” in the fifth paragraph mean?a. confused. b. absentminded.c. comfortable. d. badtempered.37. what would be the best title for this passage?a. for teens, texting instead of talking b. for parents, caring much for their kidsc. advantages and disadvantages of texting d. the effect of communication38. what is mark bauerleins attitud
