It tells about a heartwarming relationship between a young master of a big family, Roger (Lau) and the servant of the family who raised him, Sister Peach, the titled role. The film was premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September5th, 2011. After winning three awards at the 48th Golden Horse Awards, it was on in the mainland on March 8th, 2012. Then in 2012, it swept the Hong Kong Film Festival by winning five awards. 桃姐是以人命名的電影，講述一位生長于大家庭的少爺Roger（劉德華飾）與自幼照顧自己長大的家傭桃姐（葉德嫻飾）之間所發(fā)生的一段觸動人心的主仆情。該影片于2011年9月5日在第68屆威尼斯電影節(jié)首映。在第48屆臺灣電影金馬獎頒獎禮上，桃姐包攬三項大獎。2012年3月8日，桃姐在中國大陸上映。2012年，一舉獲得第31屆香港金像獎5項大獎。 Plot（電影劇情） Deanie Ip plays the role of an elderly woman who works for 60 years in the Rogers, tending five generations of the family, old and young included. The old servant is hit with a sudden stroke, leaving her young master in a complete loss. Busy with job-hunting, the master can do nothing but send the old servant to a rest home. It tells about a heartwarming relationship between a young master of a big family, Roger (by Andy Lau) and the servant of the family who raised him, Sister Peach (by Deanie Ip). Both players of the main roles strive their best to make their characters thoroughly hit off and strike a cord in the audience. Thus, the film director arranged for them to pay a visit to a local rest home during the Spring Festival. They met with some of the elders who had served in big families so as to have a better idea of the feelings and situation of a servant in old days. Besides, Deanie Ip also won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at 68th Venice International Film Festival. Something About The Film After sweeping both national and international film festivals, the film A simple Life, co-produced by Bona Film Group Limited and Focus Film Limited, will be presented to the mainland audience on March 8th. During the publicity for the film, Ann Hui said on Yang Lan One-on-One, a famous TV talk show in mainland, that she had been on unfriendly terms with Jing Wong, a Hong Kong director, in the past. Though she used to be annoyed at him, they have now been reconciled and begin to see eye to eye with each other.As Ann Hui recalled, their mutual hostility dated back to the days when Ann Hui was directing the film Swordsman. Jing Wong told her that nobody would like a film by a fat old woman. Ann was really pissed off. The HK media was looking forward to a sensational fight between Ann Hui and Jing Wong. They ask Ann Hui about her response to Jing Wong, and Ann replied that Jing wasnt a serious director. So the media fanned the flame by carrying reports with eye-catching titles such as “War! Ann Hui Threatens to Beat Jing Wong” When Yang Lan asked about the reasons that they made up in the end, Ann said that it was because Jing Wong declared that the two HK directors he admired most were Ann Hui and Woo John in an interview. Ann was surprised and said nothing more of their hostility. At the most difficult time when she was looking for investors for the film The Way We Are, Jing Wong helped her out, which embarrassed her a little. “When I was looking for investors for The Way We Are, Jing Wong agreed to invest as soon as he knew the project. I was kind of surprised and very glad, actually,” she thus said. “I met with him for several times in his company, talking about the project. And I always leave as soon as we finish our business, saying nothing more of our embarrassing relationship at that time. I have been very grateful for all the investors of my films, Jing Wong included. ” Ann was also vey generous. She wished to invite Jing to the premiere of “A Simple Life”, though she had no idea whether he would have time. This is the tenth film in which Andy Lau and Deanie Ip cooperated, with the last one dating back to 12 years ago.This is the first HK movie in which Qin Hailu played a part after she got the Hong Kong ID through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. It also brings Andy Lau his second Golden Horse Award for Best Actor since he won the award in 2004 for his role in Infernal Affair III. Box Office Results During the first week of the film, its box office revenue was 70 million RMB, a record high of Anns films. The Chinese Mainland It made 12.7 million RMB on March 8th, the premiere day. It reached 33 million RMB the first four days, second to War Horse, which made 37 million RMB in its opening week. The second week saw its box office revenue of 22.2million RMB, second to John Carter, making 55.2 million in the 11days.HK A Simple Life took the first place in the first three days of the opening week in Hong Kong, with a box office of 8.25 HK dollars. Its momentum continued into the second week, arriving at 1.732 million HK dollars in the first 10 days. It dropped to third with 0.459 million HK dollars in the third week, following Nightfall and The Hunger Games, grossing 2.191 million HK dollars in 17 days. It dropped to No. 5 on the list with 0.237 million HK dollars, with a total of 2.429 million HK dollars. The fifth week grossed 0.16 million HK dollars, making the total 2.589 million HK dollars.Taiwan Its opening weekend in Taiwan grossed 0.773 Taiwan dollars, second to John Carter at 1.255 Taiwan dollars. With 0.683 Taiwan dollars in the last three days of the second week, it jumped to No.1, making 1.857 million Taiwan dollars in the first 10 days in Taipei.
