(6分) The right name is important in the business world. All you have to do is think of the names for some of the products you buy every day and youll agree that the name and the product are connected in everyones mind.In many countries, successful trade or brand(商標(biāo)) names are protected by law so that other companies cannot make the same product by copying. Businesses register(注冊(cè)) a company or a product name with the government. In fact, more than 1,000 product and company names are registered every hour. Many companies spend a lot of money to find the right name for their products. A good example of this is in the car industry. Some successful names for cars have powerful associations(聯(lián)系). The Ford Mustang and the Jaguar are only two examples of choosing the names of animals that are fast and strong. When a U. S company decides to sell its product in another country, it has to make sure that the product name translates(翻譯) properly. When Coca-Cola introduced its soft drink to China, it looked for the right name. It wanted a name that would do two things. One was to present its image in Chinese and the second was to be close to its first brand nameCoke. It took some efforts before finding the right word which sounds similar and translates as “happiness in the mouth”. Asian company names are not new to the United States. The brand names of Samsung and Sony have been successful. Finding the right brand name is a big business. Asian companies that sell to foreign markets pay to find a name that will connect with its customers. There are even naming companies that offer help in inventing product names. These companies can charge up to $100,000 a word for their good names. But its worth it. Successful companies know how important the right brand names are for their development.(1)Why are trade names protected by law in many countries?A . To make companies pay for naming serviceB . To help people choose the best products.C . To present good images of the productsD . To prevent good images from being copied.(2)What can we learn from the passage?A . Many companies care about the cost of finding the right names.B . Creative trade names can help companies to have a larger sale.C . The government often does business with naming companies.(3)Whats the best title for the passage?A . The Importance of Right Brand NamesB . The Development of NamesC . The Rules of NamingD . The Methods of Choosing Names4. (10分)閱讀下列短文, 從下面每小題的A、B、C、D四個(gè)選項(xiàng)中選出最佳選項(xiàng)。DThere are some great women scientists in the world. (8分) One windy spring day, I noticed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Colorful creations of different shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds flying and dancing. As the strong winds blew against the kites, a string kept them in control.Instead of blowing away with the wind, they rose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining (控制的) string and the cumbersome (笨重的) tail kept them in control, facing upward and against the wind. As the kites struggled against the string, they seemed to say, “Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!” They rose beautifully even when they fought the restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose(松散的). “Free at last,” it seemed to say. “Free to fly with the wind.”Yet freedom(自由) simply put it in the control of an unkind wind. It fell down to the ground and landed in a mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. “Free at last”, free to lie powerlessly in the dirt, to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to stop lifelessly against the first obstacle (障礙物).How much like kites we sometimes are. The Heaven gives us adversity (逆境) and rules, rules to follow from which we can grow and get strength. Some of us break away from the rules so hard that we never reach the heights we might get to. We keep part of the rules and never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground.Let us each rise to the great heights, knowing that some of the rules that we may be angry about are in fact the strong force that helps us achieve.(1)Why does the writer write the first paragraph?A . Because it was the first time that he had seen young people flying kites.B . Because he wants to share his feelings in nature with the readers.C . Because he wants to tell the readers how to make beautiful kites.D . Because he wants to use readers similar life experience to understand the article better.(2)By writing the second and third paragraphs, the writer seems to let the readers know_.A . anyone who wants no restraints is sure to be a sad endB . what a pity it is that one kite flew down to the groundC . man with freedom cant be like that kite which fell downD . the unkind wind is the cause of the fallen kites failure(3)What does the underlined word “restriction” in the second paragraph probably mean?A . 束縛B . 放縱C . 搖擺D . 牽引(4)In the writers opinion, _.A . without restrictions and rules we can make endless progressB . kites are good examples to those who want to get freedomC . restrictions are necessary for us human beingsD . we dont need any freedom at all6. It may be hard to picture it now, but a man named Sequoyah lived in such a world. Sequoyah was a member of a native American tribe(部落), the Cherokee. Cherokee people speak their own language, but for hundreds of years they did not have a system of writing. Without a writing system, the Cherokee had no newspapers or books before 1809.Sequoyah was probably born around the year 1770 and lived with his mother in a small village in the mountains of Tennessee. When he grew up, he became a blacksmith(鐵匠). When he was doing business with those “English-speaking people”, he noticed that they used paper with marks to record their thoughts and ideas. Sequoyah called these pieces of paper with marks “talking leaves”. He began to wonder why people who spoke Cherokee did not have a way to write down their words. In 1809, Sequoyah decided to give the Cherokee their own “talking leaves”. At first he tried to make a different symbol for every word in the Cherokee language. But in that case, there would be so many symbols and too hard for people to remember, so he decided to make a picture for each syllable (音節(jié)). After much hard work, Sequoyah invented 85 symbols. In order to see whether it would work, he helped his six-year-old daughter Ayoka learn each symbol and found she could learn to read and write very quickly. Sequoyahs invention was a success! Before long, Sequoyahs writing system had spread far and wide. Cherokee people living in all different parts of the country learned to read and write. In 1825, Sequoyahs system was made the official written language for Cherokee people. To this day, Cherokee speakers still use Sequoyahs writing system. In some parts of the United States, you can see street signs and billboards written in both English and Cherokee. Sequoyah will always be remembered for his important contribution(貢獻(xiàn))to Cherokee people.根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答下列問題。(1)How long did Cherokee people not have a system of writing?_(2)What did Sequoyah call the pieces of paper with marks?_(3)How many symbols did Sequoyah invent in the Cherokee language?_(4)When was Sequoyahs system made the official written language?_(5)Why will Sequoyah always be remembered?_四、 單詞拼寫。 (共2題;共11分)8.
