He noticed one of the patients, a ten-year-old poor girl called Katie, who had a very painful illness. Katie lay in her bed, day after day, with nothing to help her forget her pain and cheer up. One day the doctor noticed her trying to make a doll of her finger, and speaking to it. But she was soon tired of it, and lay back into her bed. That afternoon, the young doctor saw a beautiful ribbon in a shop window. He thought that it might help cheer the little girl up, so he went in and bought it for her. When he handed the ribbon to the girl, she was too surprised to speak. There were tears in her eyes. This little gift made her feel rich and happy. The nurse later told the doctor that the girl played with the ribbon all day long. She twisted (盤 繞) it round her head. She held it in her hand while she slept. Some weeks later, Katies illness became worse, and it was necessary to perform a dangerous operation. When Katie was brought into the operation room, she cried out for the young doctor. He was brought, and he held one of the girls hands, while the other tightly held the ribbon. During the operation, the ribbon fell off Katies hand. As soon as she woke up and opened her eyes, she looked at her friend and said in a low voice, “My ribbon.” The doctor gave it to her and she smiled happily. It was only a little gift, but it made the girls stay in the hospital bright with beauty and love. () 49. Katie was a _. A. doctorB. patientC. nurseD. salesperson () 50. Hospitals are places with beauty and love. C As kids, we learn how to write, maybe play a musical instrument and draw. So why dont we learn to code (編碼) computer programs too? What coding has in common with writing, playing music and creating art is that it lets you bring your ideas to life. Coding is all about creativity and thats why I love it. Creating with code 6 CoderDojo helps young people around the world to learn computer programming for free. When I went to my first CoderDojo class in Dublin City University in Ireland, at age nine, I didnt know anything about coding or even what it was. But I remember making my very first web page that first day, and being surprised that I could create such a thing. It was a great feeling that I think every young people should experience! By going to CoderDojo every week, I learned how to make websites, apps and games. One of my apps is called Auto-Journalist. It can help journalists (記者) and interviewees do interviews even if they are both really busy or live in different time zones. It is still in development, and I have showed it at an event called Coolest Projects Awards, where young people get to show the public what they have created with code. Its so much fun to share ones creations, and to see what everyone else has made too. Learning environment For the past three years I have also been helping to teach other young people at CoderDojo DCU. In recent years I have also noticed many more girls attending CoderDojo DCU to try out coding. This has a lot to do with the CoderDojo girls classes girls and young women take part in it with their friends, and it doesnt feel like coding is a “boy thing”. It is really wonderful to see this, because we need more girls and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Its a good way
