7、, the high idealism and year ning for compa nion ship gradually give way to mute, cold death, as the moss creeps up the speaker corpse and her headst one, obliterati ng both her capacity to speak (coveri ng her lips) and her ide ntity (coveri ng her n ame).The ultimate effect of this poem is to show
8、 that every aspect of huma n life ideals, human feelings, identity itself is erased by death. But by making the erasure gradua something to be “ adjustedto” in the tomband by portraying a speaker who is un troubled by her own grim state, Dick inson creates a sce ne that is, by turns, grotesque and c

The poem is full of many metaphors and similes, such as the king men ti oned in the poem who represe nts a belief in religio n. The wordi ng of the poem affirms Emily Dickinsons belief in life after death. The poem has a short
13、 title but is deep in meaning. Death is in evitable to all who are born, although not all deaths are disturbed by a pesky fly.(2) In 1863, Emily Dickinson wrote the slant rhyme poem I heard a Fly buzz- when Idied-, which gives the reader a rare glimpse of dying from the view point of some one who is
14、 already dead. Death is a part of life no matter what pers onal belief one has, and accord ing to Emily Dick inson, life may continue after death.修辭“ heard a Fly buzz ” employs all of Dick inson fosmal patter ns: trimeter and tetrameter iambic lines (four stresses in the first and third lines of eac
15、h sta nza, three in the sec ond and fourth, a pattern Dick inson follows at her most formal); rhythmic in serti on of the long dash to in terrupt the meter; and an ABCB rhyme scheme. In terest in gly, all the rhymes before the final sta nza are half-rhymes (Room/Storm, firm/Room, be/Fly), while only
