1、妙法蓮花經(jīng)卷七 妙音菩薩品第二十The Wonderful Dharma Lotus Flower Sutra Roll-Seven (Chapter Twenty-Four)妙法蓮華經(jīng)卷第七后秦龜茲國三藏法師鳩摩羅什奉詔譯Chapter Twenty-four:“The Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound”妙音菩薩品第二十四At that time Shakyamuni Buddha emitted a light from his flesh cowl, the mark of a great person,爾時(shí)釋迦牟尼佛。放大人相肉髻光明。and a radiance

2、issued forth from the white hair-mark between his eyebrows,及放眉間白毫相光。everywhere illumining Buddha worlds to the east equal in number to the grains of sand in one hundred and eight myriad kotis of nayutas of Ganges Rivers.遍照東方百八萬億那由他恒河沙等諸佛世界。Beyond these, there was a world by the name of Adorned with

3、Pure Light.過是數(shù)已有世界。名凈光莊嚴(yán)。In that world was a Buddha by the name of Wisdom of Pure Flower Constellation King Thus Come One, One Worthy of Offerings, One of Right and Universal Knowledge, One Whose Clarity and Conduct Are Complete, Well Gone One Who Understands the World, Supreme Lord, Regulating Hero

4、, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, World Honored One.其國有佛。號(hào)凈華宿王智如來應(yīng)供正遍知明行足善逝世間解無上士調(diào)御丈夫天人師佛世尊。He was reverently circumambulated by a great multitude of limitless, boundless Bodhisattvas, to whom he was speaking the Dharma.為無量無邊菩薩大眾恭敬圍繞而為說法。The light that issued forth from Shakyamuni Buddhas white

5、hair-mark universally illumined that country.釋迦牟尼佛白毫光明遍照其國。At that time in the country Adorned with All Pure Light, there was a Bodhisattva by the name of Wondrous Sound,爾時(shí)一切凈光莊嚴(yán)國中。有一菩薩名曰妙音。who had, for a long time, planted the roots of virtue by making offerings and drawing near to limitless hundre

6、ds of thousands of myriads of kotis of Buddhas and had completely accomplished profound wisdom.久已殖眾德本。供養(yǎng)親近無量百千萬億諸佛。而悉成就甚深智慧。He had obtained the Samadhi of the Wonderful Banner Mark,得妙幢相三昧。the Samadhi of the Dharma Flower,法華三昧。the Samadhi of Pure Virtue,凈德三昧。the Samadhi of the Playfulness of Constell

7、ation King,宿王戲三昧。the Samadhi of No Condition,無緣三昧。the Samadhi of the Seal of Wisdom,智印三昧。the Samadhi of Understanding the Speech of all Living Beings,解一切眾生語言三昧。the Samadhi of the Accumulation of All Merit and Virtue,集一切功德三昧。the Samadhi of Purity,清凈三昧。the Samadhi of Playful Roaming of Spiritual Penet

8、rations,神通游戲三昧。the Samadhi of the Wisdom Torch,慧炬三昧。the Samadhi of Royal Splendor,莊嚴(yán)王三昧。the Samadhi of Pure Light,凈光明三昧。the Samadhi of the Pure Treasury,凈藏三昧。the Samadhi of Difference, and不共三昧。the Samadhi of Sun-Revolution.日旋三昧。He obtained such great samadhis as these, equal in number to the grains

9、of sand in a hundred thousand myriad kotis of Ganges Rivers.得如是等百千萬億恒河沙等諸大三昧。When Shakyamuni Buddhas light illumined his body,釋迦牟尼佛光照其身。he immediately spoke to the Buddha Wisdom of Pure Flower Constellation King, saying,即白凈華宿王智佛言?!癢orld Honored One, I should go to the Saha world to bow to, draw near

10、 to, and make offerings to Shakyamuni Buddha and to see the Dharma Prince Bodhisattva Manjushri,世尊。我當(dāng)往詣娑婆世界。禮拜親近供養(yǎng)釋迦牟尼佛。及見文殊師利法王子菩薩。“the Bodhisattva Medicine King, the Bodhisattva Courageous Giving,藥王菩薩。勇施菩薩。“the Bodhisattva Constellation King Flower, the Bodhisattva Mind of Superior Practice,宿王華菩薩。

11、上行意菩薩?!皌he Bodhisattva King of Adornment, and the Bodhisattva Medicine Superior.”莊嚴(yán)王菩薩。藥上菩薩。At that time the Buddha Wisdom of Pure Flower Constellation King told the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound,爾時(shí)凈華宿王智佛告妙音菩薩?!癥ou should not look lightly upon that country or think of it as inferior.汝莫輕彼國生下劣想?!癎ood man

12、, the Saha world is uneven, its earth, stones, and mountains are filled with filth and evil. The Buddhas body is lowly and small.善男子。彼娑婆世界。高下不平土石諸山穢惡充滿佛身卑小?!癟he Bodhisattvas in the assembly are also small in shape.諸菩薩眾其形亦小?!癥our body is forty-two thousand yojanas in height.而汝身四萬二千由旬。“My body is six

13、hundred and eighty myriad yojanas in height.我身六百八十萬由旬?!癥our body is superb and upright, with a hundred thousand myriad blessings and fine and subtle light.汝身第一端正。百千萬福光明殊妙?!癟herefore if you go, do not look lightly upon that country, its Buddha, Bodhisattvas, or lands.”是故汝往莫輕彼國若佛菩薩及國土生下劣想。The Bodhisat

14、tva Wondrous Sound said to the Buddha,妙音菩薩白其佛言。“World Honored One, I shall now go to the Saha world,世尊。我今詣娑婆世界?!癮nd this is all through the power of the Thus Come One;皆是如來之力?!皌he roaming and playing spiritual penetrations of the Thus Come One;如來神通游戲?!癮nd the adornments of merit, virtue, and wisdom o

15、f the Thus Come One.”如來功德智慧莊嚴(yán)。Then the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound, without rising from his seat, his body motionless, entered samadhi.于是妙音菩薩。不起于座身不動(dòng)搖。而入三昧。With the power of samadhi he went to Mount Grdhrakuta, not far from the Dharma seat.以三昧力。于耆阇崛山去法座不遠(yuǎn)。He then created by transformation eighty-four

16、 thousand lotuses,化作八萬四千眾寶蓮華。their stems of Jambunada gold, their leaves of white silver,閻浮檀金為莖。白銀為葉。their bristles of vajra, and their sepals of kumshuka jewels.金剛為須。甄叔迦寶以為其臺(tái)。The Dharma Prince Manjushri, seeing the lotuses, asked the Buddha,爾時(shí)文殊師利法王子。見是蓮華而白佛言。“World Honored One, what is the reason

17、for this portent,世尊。是何因緣先現(xiàn)此瑞?!皌hese several thousands of myriads of lotuses,有若干千萬蓮華?!皌heir stems of Jambunada gold, their leaves of white silver,閻浮檀金為莖。白銀為葉?!皌heir bristles of vajra and their sepals of kumshuka?金剛為須。甄叔迦寶以為其臺(tái)。At that time Shakyamuni Buddha told Manjushri,爾時(shí)釋迦牟尼佛告文殊師利。“The Bodhisattva

18、 Mahasattva Wondrous Sound, surrounded by eighty-four thousand Bodhisattvas, wishes to come from the country of the Buddha Wisdom of Pure Light Constellation King to this Saha world to make offerings, draw near to, and bow to me.是妙音菩薩摩訶薩。欲從凈華宿王智佛國。與八萬四千菩薩圍繞。而來至此娑婆世界。供養(yǎng)親近禮拜于我?!癏e also wishes to make

19、offerings and listen to the Dharma Flower Sutra.”亦欲供養(yǎng)聽法華經(jīng)。Manjushri said to the Buddha,文殊師利白佛言?!癢orld Honored One, what good roots has this Bodhisattva planted, what merit and virtue has he cultivated that he can have this great power of spiritual penetrations?世尊。是菩薩種何善本修何功德。而能有是大神通力?!癢hat samadhi h

20、as he practiced? I pray that you will tell us the name of this samadhi.行何三昧。愿為我等說是三昧名字?!癢e, too, wish to cultivate it diligently,我等亦欲勤修行之?!癴or by practicing this samadhi we will be able to see this Bodhisattva, his appearance, size, and awesome manner and his comings and goings.行此三昧。乃能見是菩薩色相大小威儀進(jìn)止。“

21、We only pray that the World Honored One will, by means of the power of spiritual penetrations, let us see that Bodhisattva when he comes.”唯愿世尊。以神通力。彼菩薩來令我得見。At that time Shakyamuni Buddha told Manjushri,爾時(shí)釋迦牟尼佛告文殊師利?!癟he long extinct Thus Come One Many Jewels shall, for your sakes, manifest these si

22、gns.”此久滅度多寶如來。當(dāng)為汝等而現(xiàn)其相。The Buddha Many Jewels then said to the Bodhisattva,時(shí)多寶佛告彼菩薩?!癎ood man, come here! The Dharma Prince Manjushri wishes to see you in person.”善男子來。文殊師利法王子。欲見汝身。The Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound then disappeared from his own country,于時(shí)妙音菩薩。于彼國沒。and together with eighty-four thousand

23、 Bodhisattvas, set out on his way.與八萬四千菩薩俱共發(fā)來。The countries they passed through quaked in six ways,所經(jīng)諸國六種震動(dòng)。and all rained down lotuses made of the seven treasures,皆悉雨于七寶蓮華。while a hundred thousand kinds of heavenly music played spontaneously.百千天樂不鼓自鳴。The Bodhisattvas eyes were like the broad, large

24、 petals of a blue lotus.是菩薩。目如廣大青蓮華葉。If you combined a hundred thousand myriad moons,正使和合百千萬月。they would not surpass the awesome beauty of his facial features.其面貌端正復(fù)過于此。His body was the color of gold, adorned with limitless hundreds of thousands of meritorious virtues.身真金色。無量百千功德莊嚴(yán)。The light of his

25、awesome virtue blazed with brilliant splendor,威德熾盛光明照曜。and his marks were all perfect.諸相具足。His body was as solid as that of Narayana.如那羅延堅(jiān)固之身。He entered a terrace made of the seven treasures and rose up into empty space to the height of seven tala trees.入七寶臺(tái)上升虛空。去地七多羅樹。With Bodhisattvas reverently c

26、ircumambulating him,諸菩薩眾恭敬圍繞。he came to Mount Grdhrakuta in the Saha world.而來詣此娑婆世界耆阇崛山。Having arrived, he stepped down from the terrace of seven treasures.到已下七寶臺(tái)。Taking a necklace of beads, its value in the hundreds of thousands,以價(jià)直百千瓔珞。he went before Shakyamuni Buddha, bowed with his head at the B

27、uddhas feet, offered up the necklace, and said to the Buddha,持至釋迦牟尼佛所。頭面禮足奉上瓔珞。而白佛言?!癢orld Honored One, the Buddha Wisdom of Pure Flower Constellation King inquires after the World Honored One.世尊。凈華宿王智佛。問訊世尊?!癆re you free from sickness and worry? Are you energetic in your comings and goings? Is your

28、 practice peaceful and happy?少病少惱起居輕利安樂行不?!癆re the four elements in harmony?四大調(diào)和不?!癆re you enduring the affairs of the world?世事可忍不。“Are living beings easy to save,眾生易度不。“without much greed, hatred, stupidity, jealousy, stinginess, or arrogance?無多貪欲瞋恚愚癡嫉妬慳慢不?!癗one are not filial in their behavior tow

29、ard their parents, are they, or disrespectful toward Shramanas, deviant in their views, unwholesome in their thoughts, or not in control of the five emotions?無不孝父母不敬沙門邪見不善心不攝五情不?!癢orld Honored One, have living beings been able to conquer the hateful demons?世尊。眾生能降伏諸魔怨不?!癏as the long extinct Thus Com

30、e One Many Jewels, within the jeweled stupa, come to hear the Dharma?久滅度多寶如來。在七寶塔中來聽法不?!癏e also wishes to inquire as to whether the Thus Come One Many Jewels is peaceful and secure, free from worry, and long abiding in the world Worthy of Being Endured.又問訊多寶如來。安隱少惱堪忍久住不。“World Honored One, we now wi

31、sh to see the Buddha Many Jewels.世尊。我今欲見多寶佛身?!癢e only pray that the World Honored One will allow us to see him.”唯愿世尊。示我令見。Shakyamuni Buddha told the Buddha Many Jewels,爾時(shí)釋迦牟尼佛語多寶佛?!癟he Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound wishes to see you.”是妙音菩薩欲得相見。The Buddha Many Jewels spoke to Wondrous Sound, saying,時(shí)多寶佛

32、告妙音言。“Good indeed! good indeed! that in order to make offerings to Shakyamuni Buddha and to hear the Dharma Flower Sutra,善哉善哉。汝能為供養(yǎng)釋迦牟尼佛。及聽法華經(jīng)?!癮s well as to see Manjushri and the others, you have come here.”并見文殊師利等。故來至此。The Bodhisattva Flower Virtue then spoke to the Buddha, saying,爾時(shí)華德菩薩白佛言。“World

33、 Honored One, what good roots has the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound planted, and what meritorious virtues has he cultivated that he has these spiritual power?”世尊。是妙音菩薩。種何善根修何功德。有是神力。The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Flower Virtue,佛告華德菩薩?!癐n the past there was a Buddha by the name of Clouds and Thunder So

34、und King, Thus Come One, Arhat, Samyaksambuddhah.過去有佛。名云雷音王多陀阿伽度阿羅訶三藐三佛陀。“His country was called Manifesting All Worlds.國名現(xiàn)一切世間。“His eon was named Delightful to See.劫名憙見?!癋or twelve thousand years, the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound made offerings to the Buddha Clouds and Thunder Sound King of a hundred

35、 thousand kinds of music.妙音菩薩。于萬二千歲。以十萬種伎樂。供養(yǎng)云雷音王佛。“He also offered up eighty-four thousand bowls made of the seven treasures.并奉上八萬四千七寶缽?!癆s a result of these causes, conditions, and rewards, he has been born in the country of the Buddha Wisdom of Pure Flower Constellation King and now possesses the

36、se spiritual powers.以是因緣果報(bào)。今生凈華宿王智佛國有是神力?!癋lower Virtue, what do you think?華德。于汝意云何?!癈ould the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound who made offerings of music and jeweled vessels to the Buddha Clouds and Thunder Sound King have been anyone else?爾時(shí)云雷音王佛所妙音菩薩伎樂供養(yǎng)奉上寶器者。豈異人乎。“He was just this Bodhisattva Mahasat

37、tva Wondrous Sound.今此妙音菩薩摩訶薩是。“Flower Virtue! The Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound has in the past made offerings and drawn near to limitless Buddhas, for a long time planting the roots of virtue and encountering hundreds of thousands of myriads of kotis of nayutas of Buddhas equal in number to the sands

38、of the Ganges.華德。是妙音菩薩。已曾供養(yǎng)親近無量諸佛久殖德本。又值恒河沙等百千萬億那由他佛?!癋lower Virtue, you see merely the body of the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound as it appears here.華德。汝但見妙音菩薩其身在此?!癏owever, this Bodhisattva manifests all kinds of bodies and speaks this Sutra in many places for living beings.而是菩薩現(xiàn)種種身。處處為諸眾生說是經(jīng)典。“He may

39、 manifest in the body of a Brahma King;或現(xiàn)梵王身?!癶e may manifest in the body of Shakra;或現(xiàn)帝釋身?!癶e may manifest in the body of the God of Sovereignty;或現(xiàn)自在天身?!癶e may manifest in the body of the God of Great Sovereignty;或現(xiàn)大自在天身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a great heavenly general;或現(xiàn)天大將軍身?!癶e may manife

40、st in the body of the heavenly king Vaishravana;或現(xiàn)毘沙門天王身。“he may manifest in the body of a wheel-turning sage king;或現(xiàn)轉(zhuǎn)輪圣王身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a minor king;或現(xiàn)諸小王身?!癶e may manifest in the body of an elder;或現(xiàn)長者身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a layperson;或現(xiàn)居士身?!癶e may manifest in the body

41、 of a minister of state;或現(xiàn)宰官身。“he may manifest in the body of a Brahman;或現(xiàn)婆羅門身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a Bhikshu, Bhikshuni, Upasaka, or Upasika;或現(xiàn)比丘比丘尼優(yōu)婆塞優(yōu)婆夷身?!癶e may manifest in the body of an elders wife or a laypersons wife;或現(xiàn)長者居士婦女身。“he may manifest in the body of a ministers wife;或現(xiàn)宰官婦

42、女身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a Brahmans wife;或現(xiàn)婆羅門婦女身?!癶e may manifest in the body of a young boy or a young girl;或現(xiàn)童男童女身?!皁r he may manifest in the body of a heavenly dragon, yaksha, gandharva, asura, garuda, kinnara, mahoraga, a person, or a nonperson and speak this Sutra.或現(xiàn)天龍夜叉干闥婆阿修羅迦樓羅緊那羅摩

43、睺羅伽人非人等身。而說是經(jīng)。“He can rescue all in the hells, the hungry ghosts, and the animals,諸有地獄餓鬼畜生?!癮s well as those in difficulty.及眾難處皆能救濟(jì)?!癏e can even transform himself into a woman of the kings inner court and speak this Sutra.乃至于王后宮。變?yōu)榕矶f是經(jīng)?!癋lower Virtue, the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound can rescue all

44、living beings in the Saha World.華德。是妙音菩薩。能救護(hù)娑婆世界諸眾生者?!癟he Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound can, in this way, transform into all these different kinds of bodies and speak this Sutra for living beings in the Saha world and still lose nothing of his spiritual penetrations, transformations, and wisdom.是妙音菩薩。如

45、是種種變化現(xiàn)身。在此娑婆國土。為諸眾生說是經(jīng)典。于神通變化智慧無所損減?!癟his Bodhisattvas wisdom shines brightly upon the Saha world, causing living beings each to gain understanding.是菩薩。以若干智慧。明照娑婆世界。令一切眾生各得所知?!癐n worlds like Ganges sands throughout the ten directions, he does the same.于十方恒河沙世界中亦復(fù)如是。“To those who must be crossed over

46、 by the form of a Hearer, he manifests in the form of a Hearer and speaks the Dharma for them.若應(yīng)以聲聞形得度者。現(xiàn)聲聞形而為說法?!癟o those who must be crossed over by the form of a Pratyekabuddha, he manifests in the form of a Pratyekabuddha and speaks the Dharma for them.應(yīng)以辟支佛形得度者?,F(xiàn)辟支佛形而為說法?!癟o those who must be c

47、rossed over by the form of a Bodhisattva, he manifests in the form of a Bodhisattva and speaks the Dharma for them.應(yīng)以菩薩形得度者?,F(xiàn)菩薩形而為說法?!癟o those who must be crossed over by the form of Buddha, he manifests in the form of a Buddha and speaks the Dharma for them.應(yīng)以佛形得度者。即現(xiàn)佛形而為說法?!癐n this way he manifest

48、s in all manner of forms to cross them over in the appropriate manner,如是種種隨所應(yīng)度。而為現(xiàn)形?!癳ven to the point of manifesting extinction to those who must be crossed over by manifesting extinction.乃至應(yīng)以滅度而得度者。示現(xiàn)滅度?!癋lower Virtue, such is the great power of the spiritual penetrations and wisdom of the Bodhisa

49、ttva Mahasattva Wondrous Sound.”華德。妙音菩薩摩訶薩。成就大神通智慧之力。其事如是At that time the Bodhisattva Flower Virtue said to the Buddha,爾時(shí)華德菩薩白佛言?!癢orld Honored One, the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound has deeply planted the roots of goodness.世尊。是妙音菩薩深種善根?!癢orld Honored One, in what samadhi does this Bodhisattva dwell th

50、at he is able in this way to transform himself and save living beings?”世尊。是菩薩住何三昧。而能如是在所變現(xiàn)度脫眾生。The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Flower Virtue,佛告華德菩薩。“Good man, this samadhi is called the manifestation of all physical forms.善男子。其三昧名現(xiàn)一切色身?!癟he Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound, dwelling in this samadhi, can in this way benefit limitless living beings.”妙音菩薩住是三昧中。能如是饒益無量眾生。When this chapter on the Bodhisattva Wondrous Sound had been spoken,說是妙音菩薩品時(shí)。those who had accomp
