Research shows that voluntary attrition increases after companies reduce their workforce, and often the first to leave are

2、 the best performers. This is why it is especially important to keep employees engaged during difficult economic times. Here are some ideas for motivating and retaining your team:Know what motivates your people:Most employees are motivated to come to work by:Opportunities for interesting work and ca

3、reer advancementAn environment that demonstrates fairness and respectGood working relationships with their supervisor and co-workersA sense of accomplishment and pride in their companyYou can support your employees by:Taking time to meet with your staff on a regular basis to discuss their issues and

4、 concerns.Initiating Engagement Conversations to find out what motivates your employees to work at P&WC and what might lure them away. For example, asking your employees:o What will keep you here?o What might entice you away?o What do you like the most about your work right now? The least?o Are

(If not, please explaino Describe a good day at work.o What is one thing you want to learn this year?Holding follow-up discussions on the agreed upon actions for each employee.Recognition is more important now than ever:Employees that remain after a reduction in forc

6、e need to know that they are appreciated. Many are picking up the workload of impacted co-workers and may feel increased stress, along with “survivor guilt.” It is very important to regularly recognize your staff for their contributions. Sometimes the smallest gesture, such as a pat on the back or a

7、 hand written thank you note, means the most to employees. Other ideas for recognizing your team include:Setting aside time in staff meetings for team members to recognize or thank each otherCelebrating accomplishments to build teamworkCommunication is key:Employees want to be informed, and whether

8、the news is good or bad, they appreciate timely and honest communication. During tough times, the more personal the communication, the better it is. Regular all-hands, staff meetings, manager walk-arounds and one-on-one discussions are especially important during times of uncertainty. Managers need

9、to give their employees a clear sense of direction and a vision for the future. Make sure you are available and include opportunities for two-way communication.Be an inspiration:Remember that employees take their cue from you. Employees feel more energized and empowered in a positive environment. Wh

10、ile leadership is serious business, humor and a positive attitude is contagious and can go a long way in making employees feel better about their workplace.
