21、plementedby4years(1982-85)ofsatelliteSSTretrievals.The1-degreeSSTclimatologywasbasedonmonthlyanalysesusinginsituSSTdata,satelliteSSTretrievals,andsea-icecoveragedataovera12-yearperiod(1982-93).Thefinalclimatologywascombinedfromthesetwoproductssothata1-degreeresolutionwasmaintainedandthebaseperiodwas

22、adjustedtothe1950-79periodwhereverpossible(approximately40Sand60N).Comparedtothe2-degreeclimatology,the1-degreeclimatologyresolvesequatorialupwellingandfrontsmuchbetter.Thisleadstoabettermatchingofthescalesofthenewanalysisandclimatology.Inaddition,becausethemagnitudesoflarge-scalefeaturesareconsiste
