10、esterday. 這位醫(yī)生昨天來到這里。This is the doctor who (that) came here yesterday.這就是昨天來的那位醫(yī)生。定語從句中的that (who)是關系代詞,在句子中作主語。因為先行詞是人,可以用who或that引導定語從句。引導定語從句的關系代詞,一是放在先行詞與定語從句之間引導定語從句;二是定語從句中充當一定成分。在使用定語從句時,定語從句可根據(jù)表達的需要選用相應的時態(tài)。當關系代詞在定語從句中作主語時,從句的謂語必須與先行詞保持人稱和數(shù)的一致。如:Mike is one of the boys who are from England.邁

11、克是來自英國的眾多男孩中的一個。Mike is the only boy that is from England.邁克是唯一一個從英國來的男孩?!静?】定語從句的“關聯(lián)詞”引導定語從句的關系代詞有who, which, that等,選擇用什么樣的詞來引導,關鍵是看兩點:一看先行詞;二看從句中缺少的成分。如:1. who指代人,即它的先行詞必須是人,在定語從句中作主語和賓語,在翻譯時who不必譯為“誰”,應譯為“的”,whom在從句中作賓語時,可以省略。如:Do you know the girl who is standing there?你知道站在那兒的女孩是誰嗎?2. whose是代詞

12、的所有格,它指代人,所引導的定語從句所修飾的先行詞必須是人。若whose是指代物時,它相當于of which。如:Please show me the book whose over is black.(=Please show me the book, the cover of which is black.)請把封面是黑色的書拿給我看看。3. that多指物,即它的先行詞必須是物,有時也可以是人,在定語從句中作主語或賓語。指物時,其用法與which大致相同。如:Who is the person that is walking over there?在那兒散步的那個人是誰?(作主語)Thi

13、s is the lab (that) we built two years ago.這就是我們兩年前建的實驗室。下列情況不必須用that而不用which:先行詞為all, everything, nothing, anything, little等不定代詞時。如:You must tell everything that you know about it.你必須把你所知道的都說出來。先行詞有序數(shù)詞first, second或last或形容詞最高級等修飾時。如:This is the first book that Li Lei wrote.這是李雷寫的第一本書。當關系代詞that用來指人時

14、,關系代詞who和that在很多情況下可以通用。作主語時多用who,作賓語時,常用that。當先行詞是anyone, one, ones和those時,多用who,而不用that。如:One who has nothing to fear for oneself dares to tell the truth.一個無所畏懼的人敢于說實話。4. which指代物,即它的先行詞必須是物,在定語從句中作主語和賓語,作賓語時,可以省略。如:Here is the book (which) my father is looking for.這就是我爸爸正在找的那本書。與increase一起“增長”1用作

15、動詞的increaseincrease用作動詞,意為“增加;增大”。如:The population of the earth is increasing very fast.地球上的人口在快速增長著。2用作名詞的increaseincrease用作名詞,意為“增加;增大”。如:One of the consequences of our planets being warming up is a increase in the number of natural disasters.地球升溫造成的后果之一是增加了自然災害的數(shù)量。3短語中的increaseincrease by意為“增加了”,

16、表示增加的幅度。如:The output increased by 150 percent.
