3、came home, an empty house and I found a note from my mom. She was at my brothers baseball game. However my sister was at her friends, and would be dropped off. At five oclock I went to turn on the light on the front porch and saw my sister walking towards the door with her friend and her friend
4、s father. I heard them talking.“Is anyone at home?” the father asked. “Just my mean elder sister, Sara, and shes probably in her room as usual,” my sister replied. I couldnt believe it. I opened the door, thanked the father for bringing her home then shut the door and started to cry. To make a long
5、story short, a huge fight followed that ended with me driving my sister to her room. But I realized that what was worse than the fight was that I really hadnt been a good elder sister. I had lost track of what was important, and what really mattered. I had been fallen into a whirlpool(漩渦)of pressure

That was in 1931. The years passed. He gave up flyi
9、ng and began sailing. He enjoyed it greatly. Chichester was already 58 years old when he won the first solo trans-Atlantic sailing race. His old dream of going round the world came back, but this time he would sail. His friends and doctors did not think he could do it, as he had lung cancer. But Chi
10、chester was determined to carry out his plan. In August, 1966, at the age of nearly 65, an age at which many men retire, he began his greatest voyage of his life. Chichester covered 14,100 miles before stopping in Sydney, Australia. This was more than twice the distance anyone had previously sailed
11、alone. On shore, he could not walk without help. Everybody said the same thing: he had done enough; he must not go any further. But he did not listen. After resting in Sydney for a few weeks, Chichester set off once more in spite of his friends attempt to dissuade him. The second half of his voyage
12、was by far the more dangerous part, during which he sailed round the risky Cape Horn. After succeeding in sailing round Cape Horn, Chichester sent the following radio message to London:“I feel as if I had waken up from a horrible dream. Even a wild horse could not drag me down to Cape Horn and that
13、rough Southern Ocean again.” Just before 9 oclock on Sunday evening 28 May, 1967, he arrived back in England, where a quarter of a million people were waiting to welcome him. The whole voyage from England and back had covered 28,500 miles. It had taken him nine months, of which the sailing time was

Finally, the coach gave in, with the warning, “If you miss ONE game, you are out!” She carried big buckets of water to her teammates. She bandaged knees and ankles before every game. Often, Jenny could be seen carry
20、ing a bucket of water in each hand, nearly dragging them, along with her pillow pressed under her arms. When asked why he thought that the team was winning all their games, even in the face of injury, one member of Jennys team explained, “Well, when youve been knocked down and you cant seem to move,

23、 Peking opera, known as China's national opera, is a combination of music, dance and art and is widely regarded as a full expression of Chinese culture. Today, this art form is facing the danger of extinction as the younger generation is mostly interested in pop culture. A Peking opera project f
24、or primary and secondary schools was launched by China's Ministry of Education. But it has met with a cold reaction from the public. More than half of the l,000 respondents from ten big cities expressed doubts about the practical meaning of the project in the survey conducted by the Social Surve
