Manypeopleyearntobemoreself-confident.Yettheyhavenoideahowtoachievethatobjective.Theylookatotherswhohavethegiftandsay,HeythatswhatIwant.Ihatefeelingunsureofmyself.IwishIcouldstopobsessingaboutwhatothersthinkofmeandquitworryingaboutdisappointingotherpeople.Iwanttostopanguishingovermydecisionsandtorturingmyselfaboutmymistakes.Ithinkitwouldbesogreattofeelself-assured,holdmyheaduphighandstandtall.Iveneverbeenself-confident.IwishtherewereawayIcouldbe.

Thereisaway.Youdonthavetobebornwithself-confidence.Self-confidencecangrowandflourishandripenandblossomuntilyouactuallycometofeelasthoughthereisadifferentpersoninsideofyou.Herearesomeinsightsthatmightfacilitatethequest.

Learnwhataself-confidentpersonisreallylike.Theyarenotcocky,know-it-allpeoplewhodontcarewhatanybodyelsethinks.Theyhavetheirdoubts.Andmakemistakes.Andarefarfromperfect.However,theyarewillingtoacknowledgetheirinadequacieswithoutdwellingonthem.Theydothisbymaintainingasenseofhumor,puttingproblemsinperspective,andfocusingmainlyonwhattheyvedoneright,notwrong.

Thoughself-confidentpeopledobelieveinthemselves,theydonttrytosuffocateotherswiththeirideasorbeliefs.Theyareconfidentinwhattheyknownotonlybecausetheyread,learnandthinkbutalsobecausetheyrespecttheirinstinct,intuitionandtheuniquebodyofknowledgethattheyvedevelopedbylivinglife.Theyrealizethatonedoesnthavetobelabeledanexperttobelieveinonesowntruths.

Self-confidentpeopledontunderminetheirownworthbycomparingthemselveswithothers,onlytoconcludethattheyarentgoodenough.Theyappreciatetheirstrengthsandaccomplishmentsandcanacknowledge,withoutembarrassment,theirweaknesses.Theydontliveinthevictimposition.Evenifsomethingreallybadhasoccurred,theyturnitintoachallenge,rememberingtobegratefulforthelittlethingsinlife.

Self-confidentpeoplelettheworldknowwhotheyare.Iftheywantsomethingbadlyenough,theyknowtheyhaveeveryrighttogoforit.Yet,theyalsoknowthatthepathwillrarelybeeasy.Mistakes,blundersandfailuresarepartofthelearningprocess.Theyseektolearnfromtheirmistakesanddonotwastetimetorturingthemselvesoverwhatcouldhavebeen.

Self-confidentpeoplearenotobstinatepeople.Iftheyhaveanideaaboutsomethinganditdiffersfromthewayanotherpersonisthinkingaboutit,theywillusuallytrytolookatitfromthatpersonspointofview,seewhyitmakessensetothem.Yet,aconfidentpersonssenseofselfisgrounded.Itdoesnotblowinthewind.Theirideasdonotfluctuatebasedonwhatothersdeemareimportant.
