Wateristhesourceoflife,anditplaysacrucialroleintheexistenceandsustenanceofalllivingorganismsonEarth.Itiscommonlyknownthatwaterismadeupoftwoelements,hydrogenandoxygen,withoxygenaccountingforapproximatelyone-fifthofitscomposition.However,itisessentialtounderstandthattheoxygenrequiredforrespirationbyterrestrialorganismsdiffersfromtheoxygenavailableinwater.

Inaquaticecosystems,suchasoceans,lakes,andrivers,dissolvedoxygenispresentinthewaterandservesasavitalcomponentforthesurvivalofaquaticorganisms.Theamountofdissolvedoxygeninwaterdependsonvariousfactors,includingtemperature,salinity,pressure,andthepresenceofphotosyntheticorganisms.
