don'tquestionthelogic;wesay"yes"andcontinuewiththesceneasifnothingiswrong.

Todothiseffectively,wehavetoavoidsecond-guessingourselves.Sometimesscenes

goinunexpecteddirections.Thebestimprovhappenswhenperformersstayopento

differentpossibilities.Overtime,Istartedtoenjoyourclasses.Ialsobecamebetterat

listeningandcommunicatingclearlyinthemoment.

Thattrainingcameinhandy6monthsago,whenIwasgivingaseminaraboutmy

scienceresearch.Anaudiencemembersurprisedmewithaquestionthatdidn'tgrow

outoftheinformationIhadpresented.Insteadofgettingperplexed,Iusedthat

approach,andithelpedmefindanappropriateanswer.

Lastyear,Iusedthatapproachwhendealingwithconfusingdata.Insteadof

gettingdiscouraged,Ikeptexploringthedataandendedupidentifyinganewtypeof

cell—onethatwasn'tbehavingasexpected.IfIhadn*tstayedopentothepossibility

thattheresultswerereal,Iwouldhavemissedoutonthemostexcitingfindingofmy

Ph.D.programsofar.

Wetalkedaboutbooksforabitaswell.Iplayeduntilhergrandsoncameinandhe

camebackfromoverseastoseeher.Thiswomanwasdeeplyloved一youcouldseethat.
