andpaper,participantswrotelongeressaysandmore

completesentencesandhadafasterwordproductionrate.

Inamorerecentstudy,Berningerlookedatwhatrole

spellingplaysinastudentzswritingskillsandfoundthathow

wellchildrenspellistiedtoknowwelltheycanwrite."Spelling

makessomeofthethinkingpartsofthebrainactivewhichhelps

usaccessourvocabulary,wordmeaningandconcepts.Itis

allowingourwrittenlanguagetoconnectwithideas."Berninger

said.
