詞匯精講

1.attention

attention是不可數(shù)名詞,意為“注意力;注意”,可作及物動詞或介詞的賓語。例如:

Thechildrengiveattentiontotheteacher.

孩子們將注意力集中在老師那里。

Welistenedwithattentiontowhathesaid.

我們注意傾聽他說話。

【拓展】

短語payattentiont。意為“注意……”,"關(guān)注……”,其中的to為介詞,其后接名詞,代

詞或從句作賓語,若其后接動詞,應(yīng)使用動詞-ing形式。例如:

Youshouldpayattentiontospelling.

你要注意你的拼寫。

Youdidn'tpayattentiontowhatIsaid.

你根本沒有注意聽我講的話。

2.enough

(1)enough是形容詞,意為“充足的,充分的,足夠的”,可作表語或定語,作定語時,放

在名詞的前面。例如:

Thefoodisenoughforthetrip.用于這次旅行的食物足夠了。

IhaveenoughtimetowatchTV.我有足夠的時間看電視。

(2)enough還可作副詞,意為“足夠的”,這時enough需放在所修飾的形容詞或副詞后面。

例如:

Theyoungmanisstrongenoughtocarrytheheavybag.那個年輕人足夠強(qiáng)壯能搬動重包。

【拓展】

(1)enough...todosth.”有足夠的..做某事”。例如:

Idon'thaveenoughtimetoeatlunch.我沒有足夠的時間吃午飯。

(2)...enoughtodo…可以同too...to…或so...that…結(jié)構(gòu)互相轉(zhuǎn)換。例如:

Heisn'toldenoughtogotoschool.=Heistooyoungtogotoschool.

=Heissoyoungthathecan,tgotoschool.他太小而不能上學(xué)。

3.afford

afford常用作及物動詞,意為“買(經(jīng)受)得起……;給予,提供”,其后常接名詞、代詞或動詞

不定式作賓語,afford后還可接雙賓語。例如:

ThiskindofcomputeristooexpensiveandIcan'taffordit.

這種電腦太貴了,我買不起。

AtlastIcanaffordawatch.

我終于買得起一只手表了。

Icouldnotaffordsomuchmoneyforabicycle.

我出不起那么多錢買一輛自行車。

4.dependon

depend意思為“依靠、依賴、取決于”等,只用作不及物動詞,通常與介詞on,upon連用,

主要用法有:

(1)dependon/upon+某人或某物,有時可在某人或某物后用介詞for。例如:

Whetherwe'llgocampingdependsontheweather.

我們是否去野營要看天氣。

Childrendependontheirparentsforfoodandclothing.

兒童的衣食靠父母。。

(2)dependon/upon+從句例如:

Oursuccessdependsonwhethereveryoneworkshardornot.

我們的成功取決于每個人是否努力。

Theamountyoupaydependsonwhereyoulive.

你付多少錢要看你住什么地方。

(3)口語中說It(all)depends./Thatdepends.意為"那要看情況”。例如:

一Thatdepends.那要看情況。

5.wonder

wonder作及物動詞,意為“想知道;對……感到懷疑”,常見的用法有:

(1)后接who,what,why,where等引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。例如:

Iwonderwhosheis.我想知道她是誰。

Shewonderedwhatthechildwasdoing.

她感到疑惑,孩子究竟在干什么。

IwonderwhyAnnislate.我想知道安為什么遲到了。

Iwonderwheretheyhavegone.我想知道他們?nèi)ツ膬毫恕?/p>

(2)后接that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句,表示“對……感到驚訝",that??墒∪ァ@纾?/p>

Iwonder(that)shehaswontherace.

我對她贏了比賽感到驚訝。

(3)后接if或whether引導(dǎo)的賓語從句,常用來表示一種委婉的請求或疑問。例如:

Shewonderedwhetheryouwerefreethatmorning.

她想知道你那天上午是否有空。

Iwonderifhewillsucceed.

我不知道他會不會成功。

6.remind

(1)remind是及物動詞,意思是“提醒、使某人想起”,經(jīng)常和介詞。f連用構(gòu)成動詞短語

remindsomebodyofsomebody/something=remindsomebodythat+從句,意思是“使某人想起

某事或者某人”。例如:

Doesthatsongremindyouofyourmother?

那首歌使你想起你的媽媽嗎?

(2)動詞短語remindsomebodytodosomething的意思是“提醒某人做某事”。例如:

Pleaseremindmetoreturnthebookstothelibrary.

請?zhí)嵝盐野堰@些書還給圖書館。

7.reply&answer

兩個詞都有“回答”之意,都可用作名詞和動詞,??苫Q使用。兩詞的區(qū)別是:

(1)reply為正式用語,多指經(jīng)過考慮的、有針對性的、詳細(xì)的回答,常和介詞to連

用,也可接直接引語或that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。例如:

Theoldmansmiledbeforeherepliedtomyquestion.

老人在回答我的問題前笑了笑。

(2)answer是一般用語,用法比reply廣泛,回答問題、寫回信、接電話、聽見門鈴去

開門都可用answer。另外,你可以用言語回答,也可以搖頭或聳肩作答。例如:

AnswermyquestioninEnglish.

用英語回答我的問題。

8.imagine

imagine是動詞,意為“想象,推測”,后面可接名詞、代詞、賓語從句、復(fù)合賓語,常

用于結(jié)構(gòu):imaginedoingsth.想象做某事。例如:

Wecan'timaginewhatChinawillbelikeinthefuture.

我們無法想象將來中國是什么樣子。

Ican'timagineleavingallmyfriends.

我無法想象離開我所有的朋友。

Noonecanimaginewhatwouldhappennext.

沒有人能想象出下一步會發(fā)生什么。

9.join

join是動詞,意為“參加,加入”。賓語有以下幾種形式:

(1)join+表示團(tuán)體或組織的名詞,join意為“加入(某團(tuán)體),成為……(成員)”。例如:

YaoMingjoinedtheNBA.姚明加入了NBA。

(2)join+指人的名詞或代詞,join意為“加入……之中”。例如:

Willyoujoinusforlunch?和我們一起吃午飯好嗎?

(3)join+in+活動類名詞,joinin意為“參加(活動)例如:

Canyoujoininthegame?你能參加這個游戲嗎?

10.because

because意為“因為”,表示直接原因。它所指的原因通常是聽話人所不知道的,其語氣最

強(qiáng)。常用來回答why的提問,一般放于主句之后,也可以單獨(dú)存在。例如:

Istayedathomebecauseitrained.因為下雨我待在家里。

BecauseLinglingwasill,shedidn'tcometoschool.玲玲因病沒有上學(xué)。

一Whyissheabsent?她為什么缺席?

一Becausesheissick.因為她病了。

【拓展】because和becauseof的辨析:

because是連詞,其后接句子;becauseof是復(fù)合介詞,其后接名詞、代詞、動名詞、what

從句等。例如:

Ididn'tbuyitbecauseitwastooexpensive.我沒有買是因為它太貴了。

Helosthisjobbecauseofhisage.由于年齡關(guān)系他失去了工作。

Heknewshewascryingbecauseofwhathehadsaid.他知道她哭是因為他說的話。

11.although

although的意思相當(dāng)于though,意為“盡管,雖然”,用來引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句。它所引導(dǎo)的

從句不能與并列連詞but;and;so等連用,但可以和yet;still等詞連用。例如:

Althoughhelivesalone,hedoesn'tfeellonely.=Helivesalone,buthedoesn'tfeellonely.

雖然他一個人住,但他并不感到孤獨(dú)。

Thereisairallaroundus,althoughwecannotseeit.

雖然我們看不見空氣,但空氣卻存在于我們的周圍。

【拓展】although與though的辨析:

(1)用作連詞,表示“雖然“,二者可以互換使用,但although比though更為正式。例如:

Though/Althoughitwasraining,westillwentthere.

雖然下著雨,但我們還是去了那里。

(2)although一般不用作副詞,而though可用作副詞,且一般放在句末(不放在句首),意為“可

是,不過”。例如:

It'shardwork;Ienjoyit,though.

工作很辛苦,可是我很喜歡。

Wealltriedourbest.Welostthegame,though.

我們都盡力最大努力,但我們還是輸了。

(3)在asthough(好像,仿佛),eventhough(即使,縱然)等固定短語中不能用although。例如:

neither…nor…的意思是“既不……也不……”,為連詞短語,連接兩個相同的句子成分,

表示兩者都否定。例如:

It?sneithercoldnorhot.天氣既不冷也不熱。

Heneitherknowsnorcareswhathappened.

他對所發(fā)生的事既不知道也不關(guān)心。

【注意】

neither…nor…連接主語時,通常根據(jù)就近原則,要求謂語動詞與最鄰近主語的人稱、數(shù)保持

一致。例如:

NeitheryounorIamwrong.你和我都錯了。

Neitherhenorshewasathome.他和她都不在家。

2.Carelessnesswillbeadisasternotonlytoourselvesbutalsotopatients.

(1)notonly...butalso...的意思是“不但..而且....”,連接兩個并列成分,如果連接兩

個主語的時候,謂語動詞和also后面的主語保持一致。例如:

NotonlymymotherbutalsoIliketogotothegarden.

不僅媽媽而且我也喜歡去公園。

(2)以notonly…butalso開頭的句子往往引起倒裝。例如:

Notonlydidhecomplainaboutthefood,butherefusedtopayforit.

他不僅抱怨飯不好吃,而且拒絕付飯錢。

3.Iwanttosharethebestartwithpeople,soFmalwayssearchingforsomethingbetteror

different.

(l)so可以用作連詞,表示“那么,因此,所以當(dāng)“因此,所以“講時,不能和because

連用。例如:

我起床晚了,所以遲到了。

(2)so還可以作副詞,意為“如此,這么"。例如:

seem用作動詞,意為“好像,似乎”,后面可接名詞、形容詞、動詞不定式、從句作表

語。例如:

Itseemsafineday.似乎是個好天氣。

Itseemedthatourteamwillwinthefootballmatch.

seem的其他用法:

(1)如果seem后面接的名詞前沒有形容詞時,seem后一般用“tobe+名詞”形式。例如:

Heseemstobeafarmer.他似乎是個農(nóng)民。

(2)seem的句型有時可以相互轉(zhuǎn)換。例如:

Heseemsveryhappy.=Heseemstobeveryhappy.=Itseemsthatheisveryhappy.

他似乎很開心。

【注意】

在Itseems/seemedthat…句型中,it為引導(dǎo)詞,不能用其他任何詞代替,不能說Sheseemed

that...或Thebookseemsthat...

5.1haveaproblem,andIdonotknowhowtodealwithit.

deal是不及物動詞,意為“處理,對付“,常和介詞with連用,構(gòu)成短語dealwith,意

為“處理”。例如:

Theywilldealwiththeseproblemsatthemeeting.

他們將在會議上處理這些問題。

【拓展】

dealwith和dowith都有“處理”的意思,但是dealwith常與how連用,而dowith常

what連用。例如:

6.Ioftendoubtwhetheritisworthspendingsomuchtimeonwork.

doubt用作動詞,意為“懷疑”。常有以下兩種用法:

(1)后接名詞或者代詞。例如:

(2)后面接賓語從句。

1)在否定句和疑問句中,doubt后面接that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。例如:

你懷疑她會成功嗎?

2)在肯定句中,doubt后面一般接whether或if引導(dǎo)的賓語從句。例如:

(1)until用在肯定句中,多與持續(xù)性的動詞連用。如stand/wait/stay等,表示主句動作的終止

時間。例如:

(2)until可用于否定句中,即not…until…意為"直到……才”,常與非延續(xù)性動詞連用。如
