—Biochemicaldepression.Doctorsaren'tsurewhy,butsomepeopledevelop

abiochemicallybaseddepressionsometimeduringmidlife.It'slikelythatthis

typeofdepressioniscausedbybiochemicalproblemswithinthebrain.The

problemusuallyrespondswelltoantidepressantmedication.Youmaybe

morelikelytodevelopthistypeofchemicaldepressionifothermembersof

Soil:contaminatedlandisaprobleminindustrializedcountries,whereformer

Chemicalsareafrequentpollutant.Whenwethinkofchemicalcontamination

widespread.Onestudysays7-20%ofcancersareattributabletopoorairand

pollutioninhomesandworkplaces.TheWHO,concernedaboutchemicals

thatpersistandbuildupinthebody,especiallyintheyoung,sayswemay"be

conductingalarge-scaleexperimentwithchildren'shealth".

Someman-madechemicals,endocrine(內(nèi)分泌)disruptorslikephthalates(酉太

酸鹽)andnonylphenol-abreakdownproductofspermicides(殺精子劑),

cosmeticsanddetergents-areblamedforcausingchangesinthegenitals,of
