ThurgoodMarshallwasbominBaltimoreonJuly2nd,1908.Inthatcity,andin

manyotherpartsoftheUSA.atthattime,blackpeoplewereseparatedfromwhite

sendinghimtoreadandrememberthewordsoftheConstitution(憲法).It'salong

Hewentontowinmanymorecasesdealingwithracialseparationlaws.His

mostimportantcasewastheoneofBrownversusBoardofEducation"in1954.The

caseinvolvedthecityofTopeka,whereitwaslegaltohave“separatebutequal”

schoolsfbrblackstudentsandwhitestudents.Marshallargueditwasaviolation(違

背)oftheConstitutiontoseparatepeoplebecauseoftheirrace.Headdedthatthe

word“equal“meantgettingthesamething,atthesametimeandinthesameplace.

TheSupremeCourtagreed.Thecasehelpeddestroytheterriblewalloflegalracial

separationthroughouttheUnitedStates.

In1961,PresidentJohnKennedynamedThurgoodMarshalltobeajudgeofa

federalappealscourt.In1967,PresidentLyndonJohnsonappointedhimtothe
