CultureNote英語稱呼外國人為“alien或foreigner”，但這都不是很好的說法。有永久居留權(quán)的人所持的綠卡稱為“alienregistrationcard”，卻很容易讓人想到電影“外星人”，放佛是外國人都是從外星來的。

CultureNote其實(shí)外國人也不喜歡被稱為“外人”，雖然英語譯為foreigner，但聽起來總有點(diǎn)排外的感覺。最好的方法是事先詢問對方的出身地再以American、British、German等國別稱呼。如果不分國籍的話可以一致稱為“peoplefromothercountries”，這么一來就能保持中立，不傷害任何人。

CultureNote國人常會(huì)說“我們中國人”（WeChinese），這種說法在不懂中文的人聽來還是不舒服。因?yàn)椤拔覀儭钡恼f法好像排除了所有其他國籍的人，反過來說：“YouAmericans”（你們這些美國人），聽起來也讓人覺得不舒服，英語雖然常在國籍之前加“we或you”，但是聽起來多少都有刻意區(qū)別的意思，應(yīng)該說theJapanese、Americans、someAmericans比較好。
