Thestudy'sauthorssurveyed12,395studentsandanalyzednineriskbehaviors,includingexcessivealcohol
use,illegaldruguse,heavysmoking,highmediauseandtruancy(逃學).Theiraimwastodeterminethe
relationshipbetweentheseriskbehaviorsandmentalhealthissuesinteenagers.
About58%ofthestudentsdemonstratednoneorfewoftheriskbehaviors.Some13%scoredhighonall
nineoftheriskbehaviors.And29%,the"invisiblerisk"group,scoredhighonthreeinparticular:Theyspentfive
hoursadayormoreonelectronicdevices.Theysleptsixhoursanightorless.Andtheyneglected"otherhealthy
activites."
Thegroupthatscoredhighonallnineoftheriskbehaviorswasmostlikelytoshowsymptomsofdepression;
inall,nearly15%ofthisgroupreportedbeirgdepressed,comparedwithjust4%ofthelow-riskgroup.Butthe
invisiblegroupwasn'tfarbehindthehigh-riskset,withmorethan13%ofthemexhibitingdepression.
