I moved from Long Island to Florida three years ago. Even though I own a home in Port St. Lucie just minutes from the ocean, an uncontrollable urge wells up to return to Long Island even as others make their way south. I guess I am a snowbird stuck in reverse. Instead of enjoying Floridas milder winters, I willingly bear the severe weather on Long Island, the place I called home for 65 years.Im like a migratory bird (候鳥(niǎo)) that has lost its sense of timing and direction, my wings flapping against season. So what makes me fly against the tide of snowbirds? The answer has a lot to do with my reluctance to give up the things that define who I am. Once I hear that the temperature on Long Island has dipped into the range of 40 to 50 degrees, I begin to long for the sight and crackling sound of a wood fire. I also long for the bright display of colors-first in the fall trees, and then in the lights around homes and at Rockefeller Center. Floridians decorate, too, but cant create the special feel of a New England winter.I suppose the biggest reason why I return is to celebrate the holidays with people I havent seen in months. What could be better than sitting with family and friends for a Thanksgiving turkey dinner, or watching neighbors children excitedly open gifts on Christmas? Even the first snowfall seems special. I especially enjoy seeing a bright red bird settling on a snow-covered branch. (My wife and I spend winters at a retirement community in Ridge, and Im grateful that I dont have to shovel.)While these simple pleasures are not unique to Long Island, they are some of the reasons why I come back. Who says you cant go home?24. Whats the difference between Florida and Long Island?A. Winters in Florida are milder.B. The snowbirds in Florida are rarer.C. Weather in Florida is severer.D. The Daily Cost of the UK Employees in an Office D China is developing a system that recognizes individuals by their body shape and walking movements. Systems that recognize human faces are already being used to identify people in crowds or as a secure way to unlock personal devices. The new system, known as gait recognition, is already being used by police on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai. The Chinese technology company Watrix developed the system. The company announced last month that it had raised $14.5 million to speed up the development and sale of the technology. The system works in a similar way to face recognition. Cameras capture video of people in public places. Then, machines powered by artificial intelligence (AI) examine and study the video. Facial recognition systems identify the shapes and expressions on a persons face to identify them. Gait recognition uses a persons body shape and their way of walking to identify them. The system records a persons shape and movements and then creates a model of the way they walk. Huang Yongzhen is a former researcher who co-founded Watrix in 2016. He told the Associated Press his system can identify people from up to 50 meters away. It is designed to work even when a persons face is covered or hidden. Successful facial recognition usually requires clear, close-up images of a persons face. Currently, the Watrix system is not able to identify people in real-time. Users have to enter video into the system, which then takes about 10 minutes to process each hour of video. Huang says his gait recognition system is correct 94 percent of the time. This is below the success rate of many face recognition systems. But he says the system can still be helpful to police and for other commercial purposes. He also believes the system can be effective when used together with face recognition. You dont need peoples cooperation for us to be able to recognize their identity, Huang told the AP. People still dont recognize they can be recognized by their gait, whereas everybody knows you can be recognized by your face, he added. He said the system would not easily be misled by a person changing their usual way of walking or other body movements. This is because the AI system is designed to examine all movements over the entire body. We believe you are totally unique in the way you walk, Huang said.32. How does the Watrix system work?A. By identifying the shapes and expressions on a persons face.B. By identifying persons body shape and their way of walkimg.C. By identifying clear and close-up images of a persons face.D. By identifying people in real-time.33. According to Huang Yongzhen, which one of the following statements of “gait recognition” is true?A. The success rate of it is higher than that of face recognition systems.B. It fails to work without clear images of a persons face.C. All attempts to identify people are not always correct.D. It takes less than 10 minutes to process each hour of video.34.How many mistakes might it have if the “gait recognition system” identify 3000 people?A.180 B.2820 C.120 D.288035. Which of the following will lead to a wrong recognition by the Watrix system?A. To change your usual way of walking.B. To change your body movements deliberately.C. To cover your face.D. To walk 100 meters away from the system. Rise and shine all dayMaking these easy tasks part of your morning schedule will improve your nutrition, energy, and mood todayand beyond.Stretch in bed Try this even before you open your eyes. Lift one arm and begin by stretching each finger, then your hand, then your wrist, and then your whole arm.36. Then stretch your toes, feet, ankles, and legs. Finally, end with a neck and back stretch that propels you out of bed. This “power pose” makes you feel more confident all day long.37Working out before you eat encourages your body to burn more fat for energy rather than relying on carbohydrates from food. In a study, participants who exercised after breakfast still gained weight, but those who exercised on an empty stomach did not. Turn on the music38. One study found that both playing and listening to music help improve academic performance in 16 different ways, including increasing focus and memory.Enjoy some funMany people dread having to face a new day of work, school, or chores.39. But one day I read a piece of paper in my dads briefcase that 41 everything. Thats when I saw the words: “Simone is said to have Asperger syndrome(阿斯伯格綜合癥).” I screamed at my dad, “Tell me what it is!” He 42 that I have a mild form of brain disorders, which was a problem that shapes the way I interact with other people. I wasnt sure exactly what he 43 , but it didnt matter. I just wanted to try to 44 my shock and go back to the way things were before I knew. But even though I wouldnt 45 acknowledge the news, Aspergers still destroyed my confidence and made me 46 and isolated. I felt like an outcast(被拋棄者)-not just because Aspergers made it hard for me to make friends, but because now I had this 47 . I just wanted to be like everyone else. 48 , at 16, I said to myself, “Enough! You cant run and hide from it, girl. Just face it.” Its funny, the first time I thought something was 49 was not because of what I couldnt do - it was because of what i could do. In the sixth grade, while other kids were 50 with spelling, I was like a human spell-checker! Ive also had a photographic memory, and 51 I call my “super powers”-extrasensory(超感官的) hearing and acute awareness: I can 52 phone numbers people dial just by the sound the buttons make when pressed or 53 hear one sour(別扭的) note in an entire symphony(交響樂(lè))! And I can 54 pay attention to two things at once.Dont get me wrong. Aspergers can be very confusing. For years I felt like a butterfly 55 in its cocoon(繭),waiting to emerge. It took years of work with a psychologist to 56 the difficulty of making friends.Im not going to let Aspergers create 57 for me. That why I am happy to have found out about and faced my 58 . Aspergers is a metaphor(象征) for life
