Languages English should still the most popular language, but Chinese should be second. As with English today, many people may study Chinese as a second language, whilst many local languages will still continue to disappear. The use of regional languages should continue to grow as some countries could break up into regional entities. 2. Water Becomes the New Oil Water will become a much needed resource, as rivers continue to dry up, and new technologies are developed to create sustainable water resources. Regional conflicts may occur over the scarcity of water supplies, whilst some desert areas will have to be depopulated. We will learn to ration, and have to pay more for the water we use. 3. Climate Change The economic troubles created in late 2008, will overshadow global efforts to combat the effects of our warming planet. Some resource poor but technology rich countries will be forced to use alternative energies, and be less consummative. However, as many nations in the developing World have opted for western-style development over the environmental effects of this growth- They should eventually face the need to clean up their own environment. 4. Poverty and Wealth The first, second and third World could exist in some degree in all countries. Europe and North America may mirror the rest of the World, with similar wealth gaps comparable today to India, and South America. The world will look more equal, but be more unequal- depending on which World you live in. 5. Education A majority of students could be educated on-line. This may be a result of decaying public schools in the Western world, but also newer technologies that are replacing some aspects of a traditional education. Some examinations are set to become global benchmarks in educational assessment, accepted throughout the world. Our World in 2020, could be one of wonder or one of conflict, depending on which world we live in, but also one of still fragmented beliefs, and scientific advancement. We may continue hoping that science solves the problems our planet faces, and start looking beyond our planet as a future home26. Whats the passage mainly about? A. What our world would be like in 2020. B. What we shall do in the future. C. How to prepare for the future. D. Where our future home is.27. What will happen to the language of Chinese in 2020? A. The number of Chinese speakers will be next to English. B. The Chinese language will become a regional language. C. Few people will want to learn the Chinese language. D. More people will come to learn Chinese in China.28.Peoples need of water becomes urgent because_. A. more people will demand for water. B. there will be less water resource C. we shall have less water in the future D. the weather will get much warmer29.From the passage we can infer that in India _. A. the population is increasing fast B. the demand for resources is on the rise C. many people cant enjoy free education D. There exist great wealth gaps between people30. With the introduction of newer technologies, _ . A. A. some aspects of traditional education will be replaced B. global warming will be strictly controlled C. more food will be produced to meet our need D. people dont have to work so hard as before BA serious problem for todays society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve their lives. It is not only a financial problem but also a question of the system we want for our society. I would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem. First, employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees. To make this possible, a percentage of profits should be set aside for this purpose. But when a company must take life-long responsibility for its employees, it may suffer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee costs. Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual. This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. This does not seem a very fair model since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor. In addition, the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly. This could be financed through government taxes to increase the level of pensions. Furthermore, some institutions should be created for senior citizens, which can help provide a comfortable life for them. Unfortunately, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly viable answer. The government can seldom afford to care for the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying to care for the young. One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish some working places especially for the elderly where they are independent. To sum up, all these options have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that some combination of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly generations. 31What is the passage mainly about? AThe problems faced by the old in society. BWhy we should take responsibility for the old. CHow we can improve the lives of the old. DWhere the old can go to get their pensions. 32What is the writers main purpose in writing this article? ATo discuss some possible solutions to an important social problem. BTo make general readers aware of the problems of retired people. CTo point out the need for government support for old people. DTo instruct retired people on how they can have a happier life. 33What does the underlined word viable in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? AImpossible. BPractical. CUseful. DSuccessful. 34According to the passage, how can the government help to improve the lives of retired people? ASet aside some profits to help people with problems after they retire. BIncrease savings levels of people during their working years. CIncrease the discounts for food and transport for the old. DMake available pensions for those who have retired. 35What can be concluded from the passage? ATaking care of the old is mainly an issue of money. BEmployers should allow their workers to retire at a later age. CBecoming independent should be the goal of most old people. DThere is no single solution to the problems of the old. CUnderstanding how your child learns can reduce frustration and improve achievement. If your child constantly removes when hes doing math homework or insists on listening to music while studying vocabulary words, take heart. Although it may seem like hes trying to drive you crazy, hes probably just using the strategies that help him learn.“I like to study at a desk in silence, and my son cant think that way. He likes to move around on a ball with music in the background,” says author Maureen McKay, whose website, Optimistic Outcomes, provides tips for parents based on a childs learning style. “Sometimes kids are just doing what works for them.”Educators have long been aware that learning is not one-size-fits-all. In a typical classroom, Three basic learning styles are auditory, kinesthetic, and visual. Auditory learners prefer listening to explanations over reading them and may like to study by reciting information aloud. This type of learner may want to have background music while studying, or they may be distracted by noises and need a quiet space to study. Kinesthetic learners learn by doing and touching. They may have trouble sitting still while studying, and they are better able to understand information by writing it down or doing hands-on activities. Visual learners process new information by reading, looking at graphics, or watching a demonstration. Children with this learning style can grasp information presented in a chart or graph, but they may grow impatient listening to an explanation. Most people use a combination of styles but have a clear preference for one. Understanding your childs learning style can reduce homework frustrations and make it easier for families to communicate, says McKay. She observed different learning styles while working as a teachers aide, and she started researching strategies for working with different learning styles when her daughter began having trouble in elementary school.Because her daughter had difficulty listening in class, McKay looked for exercises to strengthen listening skills. Her daughter especially enjoyed one approach, listening to an audio book and reading the book at the same time. Shes now doing well in middle school, and McKay attributes her success in part to the fact that her teachers and parents came to understand her unique style of learning.Once you know your childs primary learning style, its a good idea to let his teacher know what kind of approaches help him learn best. “I find that educators are much more willing to work with you if youre giving them ideas that work for your child,” McKay says. “The great thing is that the things that benefit your child are really going to benefit all the kids, so youre not asking for the moon.”36. By saying “take heart” in Paragraph 1, the author suggests that parents should _. A. take care B. work hard C. not be worried D. not be curious37. Which learning style may McKays son of? Auditory learners Kinesthetic learners Visual learners A. B. C. D. 38. What do you know about learning style from the passage? A. Auditory learners have a preference for seeing B. Visual learners learn best by hearing information. C. Kinesthetic learners may find it hard to sit still for long. D. Visual learners may want background music while studying.39. According to the passage, McMay would agree that _.A. parents should explore their childrens learning style B. teachers should reduce their students homework C. students always enjoy trying different learning styles D. schools should give parents advice on learning styles40. What can we learn about McMay from the passage?A. She is a teacher in her daughters school. B. She is the author of the book Optimistic Outcomes C. She has been doing research on learning styles for ten years. D. she gave her daughter great help when she had trouble with her study. DWhen I was learning calligraphy(書法),my teacher told me a story. A calligrapher taught handwriting. One of his students who often practiced handwriting with old sheets of newspaper complained that he made very little progress though he had learned it with the calligrapher for a long time. His teacher said to him,“Try to use the best paper. Maybe youll write better.” The student did as he was told. It really worked. He made headway not long afterwards and felt curious. He asked his teacher about the reason. The calligrapher answered,“When you used old newspaper to practice handwriting, you would think you were writing a draft. It didnt matter if you wrote badly as old newspaper was plenty in supply. In that case you wouldnt pay much attention to it. Now you use the best paper and youll treasure(珍愛)it. Each time you write you feel strongly about the rarity of chances and youll devote to it with all your heart and soul;youll do the handwriting much more attentively than practicing. Of course youve made rapid progress.”Indeed,we spend our ordinary days just as they are worthless “old newspaper”We dont care if we scrawl and waste it,thinking that it will come endlesslythe “old newspaper” is inexhaustible(無窮無盡的). In such a mood we may each day pass by opportunities but fail to catch any of them. Life is not a military(軍隊的)exercise but an actual war in which real weapons are used. In everyday life theres no chance for us to draft. Thats because what we call “draft” actually is the answer sheet we write that cannot be changed.Every day of our life is something new. Let us take every day as a sheet of the best paper.41The calligrapher in the story told the student to write on the best paper because he thought _.
