Due Atention Should Be Given to Internet Safety1)With the occurrence of the vicious competition between the two software companies, many citizens realize the fact that their privacy is suffering violation and threat.2) In their daily life, they are not only disturbed by strangers due to personal information disclosure on the Internet, but also are suffering the property losses because of the bank account leak.3) When it comes to the Internet safety problems, some network operators ignorance of users interest is 4)the first factor to blame, for they often sell the private information of the users to pursue their own profits.4)The second factor lies in the lack of the relevant laws enacted by the government, which means that the Internet users right has not been officially protected.5) To avoid such violation and threat, I recommend two different approaches.6) On the one hand, certain industrial associations should be established to supervise and stop the wrong doing preformed by Internet companies; 6) On the other hand, the netizens should manage to equip themselves with knowledge of Internet safety and improve the awareness of self-protection so that their privacy will not be violated.Blackboard-writing or PowerPointAlong with the development of modern techniques, more and more teachers are using PowerPoint rather than blackboard and chalks in their teaching. When asked about which is better, some students say they prefer the using of PowerPoint since it is vivid and interesting. But some other students claim that the traditional blackboard-writing is more helpful. When compared with blackboard-writing, PowerPoint has its limitations. First, it can distract students attention. Teachers usually use elements such as sound, images and flashes, which might distract the students from the knowledge they are supposed to grasp. Second, it may overload the students with too much information. As a consequence, many a student cannot focus their attention for a long time, let alone grasp the knowledge. In my opinion, although PowerPoint is used widely nowadays, it still has its limitations. Our traditional blackboard-writing should be preserved rather than be abandoned.Attend Your Classes Regularly Nowadays it is a very common phenomenon that some university students are late for or even absent from classes. And still there are some students who slip out of the classroom before the class is over. Class attendance has become a thorny problem to both the students and teachers. In fact, it is very important for the students to attend their classes regularly. First, it will ensure you to catch up with the teachers in your learning. That is very helpful to you if you want to do a good job in your study. Second, attending classes regularly is a way of showing respect to your teachers ,too. Your teachers will feel bad if the students do not attend their classes, which, in turn, will affect their teaching and be no good for the students. Third, attending classes regularly will help to form a good habit of punctuality, which is of great importance for the students to do a good job in the future. Therefore, we university students should form the good habit of attending our classes regularly from now on. And some day well benefit from it.Peoples Use of the Internet 1. From the chart we can see clearly that the number of Internet surfers in our country has increased from 26.5 million in July 2001 to 45.8 million in July 2002, and then to 59.1 million in January 2003. In my mind, the reasons why the Internet surfers are on the rise are as follows. First, the Internet can help us accomplish many tasks, including both work and playsearching for information has become more convenient than ever, and safe online business is no longer a dream. Besides, surfing the Internet is becoming cheaper and cheapermore and more people can afford it. The negative effects of the Internet are also clear. To begin with, sitting too long before the computers is harmful to our body, especially our eyes. Second, more and more people become indulged in playing video games or chatting online, which are time-consuming. All in all, I should say the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The key lies in whether we can make good use of it to enhance both work and study.主題:大學生使用信用卡 On Credit Card At present, a wide vareity of credit cards issued by major banks and shopping malls are thriving in colleges and universities across the nation, with a multitude of college students making up a growing population of card holders. Indeed, one out of five students is estimated to be in possession of at least one credit card, and the figure is expected to be on the steady increse, the latest data published by Yangtze Evening Post suggests。 Like anything prior to the emergence of this small piece of plastic, the increasing popularity of credit card on campus has both bright and dark sides. On the one hand, young adults in college, free from the trouble of pocketing a considerable sum of cash, could enjoy the convenience of credit cards and purchase expensive goods by installments. On the other hand, however, the irresponsible and excessive use of the cards by these youngsters, the majority of whom are fresh out of middle school incapable of budgeting their money, can make them heavily in debt which will take them years to pay off。 On my personal level, while enjoying a host of conveniences the credit card may bring, we couldnt afford to ignore a conspicious fact: in most cases, parents are our sole financial sources.Instead of spending without any restrict, we are supposed to put studies on the top of our agenda and move ourselves beyond heavy dependence upon our parents。主題:低碳生活low-carbon lifestyleNowadays, there are a considerable number of individuals who prefer to lead a low-carbon lifestyle which find expression in the fact that more and more commuters are using public transportation system in their daily life. Low carbon lifestyle can endow us and our society with numerous benefits. Firstly, it goes beyond doubt that low carbon lifestyle contributes a lot to the environmental protection and it is a favorable way to slow down the rate of climate change of our earth, which also means a lot to our health. We are supposed to undertake the responsibility to lead a low-carbon lifestyle, which is of great significance. And there is a diversity of measures we can take so as to lead such an environmental-friendly life. For one thing, we are expected to minimize the use of private cars, which emit a large amount of greenhouse gases. For another, we are supposed to cultivate the public awareness of energy conservation for energy in the world today is decreasing rapidly. For instance, we can turn off electrical appliances if not necessary as well as using renewable materials. Furthermore, at our leisure, we can seek opportunities to plant more trees which can absorb carbon-dioxide. In brief, low-carbon lifestyle is nothing but the best choice for us and only in this way can we form a harmonious relationship with the environment.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a letter to the university president. You should write at least 120 words based on the outline given below in Chinese: 1. 學校教學應該注重學生學習方法的培養(yǎng)。 2. 學校應該豐富學生的校園生活 A Letter to the University President Dear Sir, I am writing to put up some suggestions concerning our teaching and campus life. As a sophomore from the Math Department, I am quite satisfied with the present condition of my university, but I like to say that there is still some room for improvement. First, I believe that more attention should be paid to the guidance of our study methods. To some extent, university students are capable of studying by themselves, but more often than never, we find ourselves at a loss as to choose good books to read and appropriate topics for our research. It is clear that we need some advice from our teachers. If our teachers can lecture more on “how to learn by yourself” for us, especially for the freshmen, our skills will be further improved. Second, more activities should be conducted to make our campus life more colorful. I餸 sorry to say that the present life on campus is quite boring. Every day we have classes, read in the library, or stay in the dormitory. Life here is routine. We need more meaningful activities organized to enrich our college life and enable us to study more efficiently. I hope you can consider my suggestions. Thank you. Yours sincerely Li MingMy Opinion on Campus Lectures In recent years, more and more lectures are being given on campus. They are organized either by the departments or by the students unions with an aim to improve the students quality both mentally and academically. These lectures are usually in series and on different topics, such as arts, life, economy, psychology and world issues. Generally speaking, the advantages of good lectures are various. First they broaden the students knowledge horizon and cultivate interest in different fields. Second, they make the life of the students colorful and enjoyable. With these merits, lectures are just complementary and subordinate to our school work. If students spend too much time attending lectures, their regular study will be affected and disturbed. So, in my opinion, the students should, on the one hand, do their class work and homework well first, on the other hand, set as more time as possible to attend good lectures which are helpful to our life and study. On College Students Occupying Seats In English, there is an expression “First Come, First Served” (FCFS). This stresses the need for orderliness, which also applies to college students searching for seats in the reading rooms of a library. However, in China, things are somehow complicated. Instead of occupying seats with their own persons, students tend to use books, backpacks or other personal objects to stand for their “l(fā)egitimate” ownership of the seats. To such extent, the emergence of such a practice, now almost ubiquitous on all campuses, is justified. The seats for students to conduct self-study are limited and university authorities should endeavor to increase such facilities to satisfy students needs. At least, students efforts to fight for seats indicate they are enthusiastic about their studiestheir academic initiatives should be duly recognized and encouraged! However, using personal belongings to occupy seats may exacerbate the scarcity of facilitiessome irresponsible students might never turn up, sometimes even for days. They waste the precious resources and damage the interests of other students who have real needs. Such behavior deserves unconditional criticism and condemnation. Both university authorities and students should do their best to solve the problem. The authorities should create more reading rooms to satisfy students needs whereas students should not waste the already limited resources. In this way, an optimum allocation of resources can be realized and all students would enjoy their studies.More Communication in English Class As a language, English is essentially a vehicle for communication. Communication as a function has become so important in English teaching methodology that a distinctive school of English teaching has been createdthe Communicative Approach. This fully testifies to the growing importance of communication in English learning and acquisition. Unfortunately, in Chinese universities, English classes, like many other classes, are primarily teacher-dominated. For a long time, both students and instructors have seemed contented with discussing grammar and understanding passages through reading, overlooking the oral communication which is much more essential. However, communication is a bridge leading to closer student-teacher interaction. Students should overcome their diffidence and nervousness ensuing from their grammatical deficiencies. They should simply become more concerned with expressing themselves than seeking grammatical accuracy. As they become more outspoken and expressive, they would automatically become more grammatically competent. The emphasis on communication in English classes will result in many obvious advantages. English will become an instrument of expressing thoughts for the person who speaks it, instead of a tool just for reading about the thoughts of others. In addition, teachers can have positive and timely feedback from students through communication. Finally, by honing their communicative skills, Chinese students will become more competent in interacting with their international counterparts in this age of globalization. I believe those factors are what English learning is all about for Chinese students.Drunk Driving Most countries in the world have harsh laws aimed at penalizing drunk driving. But until recent years, drunk driving was rampant in China, due to weak legal provisions and enforcement. The past decade has witnessed tremendous increase in the number of motor vehicles, most of which are private cars. The lack of legal traditions targeted at drunk driving and peoples lack of legal awareness have given rise alarming traffic casualties as a result of drunk driving. Drunk driving has created traffic accidents whose implications extend far beyond the traffic realm. In many cases, the drunken drivers are high-ranking government officials or wealthy businessmen who could use their influence, privileges, connections and bribes to get off unpunished. This has occasioned serious social problems because justice is not done and the value of the lives of ordinary people is not duly respected. Those problems in turn contribute to the already widening inequalities between the poor and the rich in the Chinese society, to such an extent that only the institution and the enforcement of the most stringent laws can answer to the rising public complaints. According to the law introduced since May 1 this year, anybody guilty of drunk driving would be severely fined, subjected to a 6-month detention, and deprived of his driving license. I am totally in favor of this law because it has dramatically reduced cases of drunk driving. Having committed drunk driving, wealthy businessmen, high-ranking government officials, and celebrated musicians have been arrested, sued for criminal offenses, and sentenced. All these indicate that no one is above law, which ruthlessly enforced, would benefit all of us.Modes of Travelling College students, curious and energetic, love traveling; summer and winter vacations provide them with golden opportunities to travel. There are two major modes of travellingtraveling by oneself or traveling in a group organized by travel agencies. Those two patterns offer different travel experiences, with respective advantages and disadvantages. For the solitary traveler, the greatest advantage is freedom. He is perfectly free to choose his itinerary and plan his schedules, thus he can visit whatever his curiosity leads him to and contemplate over a historical site or a cultural relic for as long as he desires. The trouble is he cannot share his perceptions and excitement with any partners. Moreover, it is time-consuming and difficult to buy train tickets and look for accommodations and in emergency situations an individual traveler is largely helpless. Those problems are non-existent for group travelers because travel agencies take care of everything. Within a group, people who used to be strangers soon become friends. However, the fixed itineraries and tight schedule prevent travelers from satiating their individual curiosities. In add
