Different people have different ideas. Then what about your favorite music and other things? Today were going to share our ideas on these topics. First, tell me something about the music you listened to just now. Do you like it?S1: No, I dont like it. I like music that is quiet. And I dont like music that is too loud.S2: Neither do I. I dont like music that is noisy, either.S3: I like it very much. I like music that is energetic.S4: I like it, too. I like music that shows great energy.S5: So do I. I like music that is loud and fast.S6: Me too. I like music that attracts millions of teenage fans.S7: Me too. I like music that is popular with young people.T: Good, you have expressed yourselves clearly. Now who would like to act out the conversation about Carmens and Xu Feis preferences that we learned in the last class? A sample dialogue:S1: Does Xu Fei like The Modern?S2: No, he doesnt. He prefers groups that play quiet and gentle songs.S1: What about Dan Dervish?S2: He thinks Dan Dervish is just OK. S1: Why doesnt he like him very much?S2: Because he likes musicians who write their own music. Dan Dervish is not such a musician.S1: What does Carmen like?S2: She really loves Dan Dervish, and she likes musicians who play different kinds of music.S1: What kinds of music does she like very much?S2: She likes music thats really loud and energetic very much.S1: So, Carmen and Xu Fei have different preferences.Step II Grammar Focus (P45)Ask a student to read the sentences in the box. Then ask some of the Ss to circle the words that and who and underline the words that follow them in the three sentences.T: What does the word in the second sentence describe, a person or something?S1: It describes a thing music.T: Good. Now what about the next two sentences? S2: The word in the third sentence describes people singers and that in the last is about something.T: Now we know that groups of words starting with the words that and who describe things and people. They are the Relative Clauses(定語(yǔ)從句), and the words that and who are relative pronouns(關(guān)系代詞). Pay attention to the groups of words starting with the word that describe both things and people and those starting with the word who describe people. Look at the following rules.Show the following to the Ss.定語(yǔ)從句:1 定語(yǔ)從句修飾名詞或代詞。2 定語(yǔ)從句通常緊跟被修飾的名詞或代詞。3 引導(dǎo)定語(yǔ)從句的關(guān)系代詞如下:主格賓格所有格指代人who whom / who whose that that指代物 whichwhichwhose / of which that that當(dāng)關(guān)系代詞在從句中作賓語(yǔ)時(shí),關(guān)系代詞可以省略。T: Please read these sentences aloud.Show the following to the Ss. 1. I like music that has great lyrics.2. The girl who sings very well is a famous singer.3. He prefers songs that the singers sing the words clearly.4. She only likes music that is quiet and gentle.5. Teachers are people who work in schools, colleges and universities.T: Now, please translate the following sentences into English. When you translate, try to use the relative clauses with that and who.Show the sentences on the screen.1. The following is a poem written by a 12-year-old girl, and she expressed her deep love for music. Enjoy it! Show the poem on the screen. Music is My SoulMusic is the air I breathe, the rhythm fills my heart.The melody takes me away to a place where the words form shelter.I want to stay in the place forever and fall asleep in the words.I would stay there because music is my soul. Music is the food I eat. The sweet taste fills my insides. The sound keeps my heart pumping and keeps me under control. I want to eat this food forever and get lost in the taste. T: People who love music may feel music. What can you feel in the poem?S1: I can feel a deep love in it. S2: Music is everything for the writer. S3: Music makes her lost. T: I believe she would feel depressed if there were no music in her life. Heres another girl who loves music very much, too. Her name is Jennifer, and she has talked about her favorite CD in a review. Please read and learn about her favorite CD in activity 3a. Then match the sentence parts.Check the answers with the Ss. Step IV Role Play and Pairwork(3b, 4: P46)Ask the students to make their own conversations modeled after 3b. T: Now think of the CDs you have listened to recently. Talk about one of them with your partners, then ask and answer questions in 3a.
