It is natural to young people to be critical of their parents at times and to blame them for most of the misunderstandings between them. They have always complained, more or less justly, that their parents are out of touch with modern ways; that they are possessive and dominant that they do not trust their children to deal with crises; that they talk too much about certain problems and that they have no sense of humor, at least in parent-child relationships. I think it is true that parents often underestimate their teenage children and also forget how they themselves felt when young. Young people often irritate their parents with their choices in clothes and hairstyles, in entertainers and music. This is not their motive. They feel cut off from the adult world into which they have not yet been accepted. So they created a culture and a society of their own. Then, if it turns out that their music or entertainers or vocabulary or clothes or hairstyles irritate their parents, this gives them additional enjoyment. They feel they are superior, at least in a small way, and that they are leaders in style and taste. Sometimes you are resistant and proud because you do not want your parents to approve of what you do. If they did approve, it looks as if you are betraying your own age group. But in that case, you are assuming that you are the underdog: you cant win but at least you can keep your honor. This is a passive way of looking at things. It is natural enough after long years of childhood, when you were completely under your parents control. But it ignores the fact that you are now beginning to be responsible for yourself. If you plan to control your life, co-operation can be part of that plan. You can charm others, especially parent, into doing things the way you want. You can impress others with your sense of responsibility and initiative, so that they will give you the authority to do what you want to do. (10分) (1) Teenagers do not want their parents to approve of whatever they do because they _. Computers are useful machines. They can help people a lot in their everyday life. For example, they can help people save much time, and they can help people work out many problems they cant do easily. Our country asks everyone to learn to use computers, except the old people.Today more and more families own computers. Parents buy computers for their children. They hope computers can help them improve their studies in school. Yet many of the children use computers to play games, to watch video or to sing karaoke, instead of studying. So many teachers and parents complain that computers can not help children to study but make them fall behind, so computers are locked by parents in the boxes. In some other countries, even some scientists also hate computers. They say computers let millions of people lost their jobs or bring them a lot of trouble. Will computers really bring trouble to people or can they bring people happiness? It will be decided by people themselves! (10分) (1) Computers are useful machines because _. In recent years many countries of the world have been faced with the problem of how to make their workers more productive. Some experts claim the answer is to make jobs more varied. But do more varied jobs lead to greater productivity (生產(chǎn)率)? There is evidence to suggest that while variety certainly makes the workers life more enjoyable, it does not actually make him work harder. As far as increasing productivity is concerned, then, variety is not an important factor.Other experts feel that giving the worker freedom to do his job in his own way is important, and there is no doubt that this is true. The problem is that this kind of freedom cannot easily be given in the modern factory with its complicated machinery which must be used in a fixed way. Thus while freedom of choice may be important, there is usually very little that can be done to create it.Another important consideration is how much each worker contributes to the product he is making. In most factories the worker sees only one small part of the product. Some car factories are now experimenting with having many small production lines rather than a single large one, so that each worker contributes more to the production of the cars on his line. It would seem that not only is the degree of workers contribution an important factor, therefore, but it is also a factor we can do something about. To what extent does more money lead to greater productivity? The workers themselves certainly think this is important. But perhaps they want more money only because the work they do is so boring. Money just lets them enjoy their spare time more. A similar argument may explain demands for shorter working hours. Perhaps if we succeed in making their jobs more interesting, they will neither want more money, nor will shorter working hours be so important to them. (10分) (1) It is not easy for the workers to get freedom to do their job in their own way because _. (2分)A.there is a shortage of the workersB.the managers dont allow them to do soC.modern machinery must be operated in a particular wayD.therearetoo many production lines. (4) According to the author, many factories of the world have been faced with the problem of _. (2分)A.a lack of workersB.how to increase productivityC.product distributionD.low-quality products. (5) According to experiments, if a car factory wants the workers to contribute more to the product they are making, it should _. (2分)A.expand the factoryB.change a large production line into many small onesC.raisetheir wagesD.allow them to see just one small part of the product.四、組合題 (共10題,每題10分,共10分)1.
