(6分)閱讀理解 We wake up very early to go to school, maybe even earlier to meet with a teacher, complete our extracurricular(課程以外的) activities, come home to have a quick dinner, talk for eight minutes with our parents and do homework until we fall asleep. But then we remember we have to look at the American College Test (ACT) exercises one more time. Half asleep, we run downstairs to get the ACT books, and start studying. After this we finally get to turn off the lights and drift away to sleep. And then six hours later, we do it all over again. In my health class, my teacher told us that teenagers need at least eight to nine hours of sleep each night. The sad truth is, with so much to do every day, high school students cannot keep to this sleep schedule(安排).Let me ask you all a question: Doesnt it seem more humane(人道的) to give a teenager perhaps two hours of homework each night? This would allow us to have the eight to nine hours of much needed sleep. Or does it seem better to pile students with five hours of work a night? It leaves us very little time to relax, therefore reducing the time that we can sleep. In my opinion, the present structure(結(jié)構(gòu)) of the junior year of high school doesnt work well. Junior year of high school is a time for growth. By this time many students have the ability to think creatively, and solve challenging problems. Homework is important for a students growth. But do we really need to spend countless hours a night doing it? Too much homework can only lead to too little sleep and too low an ability. I do think it is time to change the structure, so that we sleep at home and learn at school.(1)In the first paragraph the writer gives _. A . a picture of the present daily life of high school studentsB . an example of an ideal daily life of high school studentsC . a reason for high school students to live a busy daily school lifeD . a suggestion of what high school students should do to pass ACT(2)From the last paragraph we know that the writer thinks _. A . junior year of high school is the most important growth periodB . challenging problems are needed for a teenagers growthC . the ability to think has nothing to do with homeworkD . the present structure leads to students often sleeping in class(3)Why does the writer write this article? A . To prove the role of enough sleep in teenagers growth.B . To complain about the problems in the system of the ACT.C . To ask for a change for less homework and more sleep.D . To discuss the relationship between sleep and homework.11. (8分)閱讀理解 What would the world be like if cars could drive themselves? Imagine seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping, but none of them are worried about the road ahead. Well, all of this could be the future of driving. There are several companies, including Google, working on driver-less cars, which are currently(當(dāng)前) in the testing stages. If the tests are successful, these electric, self-driven cars could be available very soon. But, how is it possible for a car to drive itself?Cars already have many features allowing them to take over for drivers in certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park themselves, or slow down when they detect(察覺(jué)) objects close by. They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions, such as snow or slippery roads.Other features have also changed the way drivers react to some situations. Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless signals, cameras and GPS, we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driving car might be possible. The self-driven car may be the answer to lowering the number of deadly (致命的) accidents caused by careless drivers or dangerous conditions. However, there are still some people who do not like the idea. American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesnt believe these cars are safe. He thinks the possibility of the technology making a mistake will be too high.(1)What does the underlined phrase “take over for” in Paragraph 3 mean? A . guide the way forB . take the place ofC . work better thanD . make use of(2)Cars already have the following features EXCEPT _. A . parking itselfB . controlling its speed in dangerous situationsC . slowing itself down near an objectD . avoiding car accidents one hundred percent(3)Scientists and engineers think that _. A . its a long way for self-driven carsB . there will be no drivers in the futureC . its possible to make safe self-driven carsD . self-driven cars can certainly reduce car accidents(4)What does the article mainly talk about? A . Different opinions on self-driven cars.B . Advantages of self-driven cars.C . Googles new technologyself-driven cars.D . Possibilities of self-driven cars.12.
