My son was in the 4th grade last year, and he had a teacher called Miss Green. I believe that when he is an adult he will surely look back on her as the best teacher he has ever had. My son has attention deficit disorder(注意力缺損癥) that makes it a little more difficult for him to learn. She was able to change her teaching methods for him so that he could keep up with the rest of the class. As a result, he got straight A on many subjects. She regarded her class as a family and they even had their own class song. She would often have them sing it to encourage them and develop a team spirit for them. When she saw that they were no longer listening carefully to what she was teaching, she would have them close their textbooks, stand up all around the room and throw around a small football. This helped them clear their minds and then focus on the lesson again. Besides, she was quick to reply to any phone calls or emails from us and got rid of our worries about children quickly. When my son went to the 5th grade this year, we happened to pass her classroom. When she saw my son, she smiled, and she came out and hugged him. She generally loves all of the children in her classroom and that love really shows. I can only pray that my son will continue to get teachers just like her for the rest of his school years.21. With the teachers help, the writers son _. A. became the best student in his class B. was interested in singing songs C. quickly finished his 4th grade lessons D. improved his grades greatly22. Which of the following is NOT true about Miss Green? A. She regarded the students as members of a family. B. She had special ways to help students study. C. She was good at teaching football and music. D. She usually made a quick reply to parents emails.23. We can learn from the passage that _. A. Miss Green didnt teach the writers son in the 5th grade B. Miss Green was the best teacher at the school C. all the students in the school liked Miss Green D. the writers son had many teachers like Miss Green24. In the passage, the writer mainly tells us _. A. what his son studied at schoolB. his son once had a good teacher C. how to be a good and popular teacherD. a teacher who liked playing with students BOn my first day of high school, I asked an eleventh-grader where my class was. And he told me it was “on the fourth floor, next to the pool.” I found out five minutes later that we dont even have a fourth floor and theres no pool either! Besides that, I didnt have any trouble with the older kid.I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours, so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 550, but joining in clubs, sports, music, and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade. The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that Ive prepared for the night before, gotten an A, and not remembered anything later. Ive changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Dont take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful! While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, theyre also around in high school. I have a lot of friends who promised theyd never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when youre applying for (申請) college. The “friends” who say youre a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. Its hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but dont follow their footsteps. Create your own path in life and make your own decisions.25. What happened to the author on his first day of high school?A. He had a fight with an eleventh-grader.B. He fell into a pool on the fourth floor.C. He was five minutes late for class.D. He was fooled by a schoolboy.26. The author advises high school students to _.A. give up sports B. choose useful classesC. try their best to get good grades D. get ready for tests the night before27. The last paragraph mainly tells us _.A. about the trouble caused by drinking and smokingB. about the importance of making friendsC. not to go to any party in high schoolD. not to lose ourselves in high schoolCWhen we talk about intelligence, we do not mean the ability to get good scores in certain kinds of tests or even the ability to do well in school. By intelligence we mean a way of living and behaving, especially in a new or anxious situation. If we want to test intelligence, we need to find out how a person acts instead of how much he knows what to do. For example, when in a new situation, an intelligent person thinks about the situation, not about himself or what might happen to him. He tries to find out all he can, and then he acts immediately and tries to do something about it. He probably isnt sure how it will all work out, but at least he tries. And, if he cant make things work out right, he doesnt feel ashamed that he fails; he just tries to learn from his mistakes. An intelligent person, even if he is very young, has a special outlook(人生觀) on life, special feeling about life, and knows how he fits into it. If you look at children, youll see great difference between what we call “bright” children and “not bright” children. They are actually two different kinds of people, not just the same kind with different amounts of intelligence. For example, the bright child really wants to find out more about life - he tries to get in touch with everything around him. But the unintelligent child keeps more to himself and his own dream-world; he seems to have a wall between him and life in general.28. Whats the main idea of the passage?A. Whats real meaning of intelligence B. Whats the “bright” childrens behaviorC. Whats a special outlook on lifeD. How to live and behave in a new situation29. In the authors opinion, the biggest difference between “bright” children and “not bright” children lies in _. A. the amount of intelligence B. the different situations they faceC. the different attitudes to life D. the background of life30. What might the author continue to talk about in the passage that follows? A. how to determine what intelligence isB. how an unintelligent person should be taughtC. how to judge whether a person is intelligentD. how education should be changedDAfter a busy day of work and play, the body needs to rest. Sleep is necessary for good health. During this time, the body recovers from the activities of the previous day. The rest that you get while sleeping makes it possible for your body to prepare itself for the next day. There are four levels of sleep, each being a little deeper than the one before. As you sleep, your body relaxes little by little. Your heart beats more slowly, and your brain slows down. After you reach the fourth level, your body shifts back and forth from one level of sleep to the other. Though your mind slows down, you will dream from time to time. Scientists who study sleep point out that when dreaming occurs, your eyeballs begin to move more quickly (although your eyelids are closed). This stage of sleep is called REM, which stands for rapid eye movement. If you have trouble falling asleep, some people suggest breathing very slowly and very deeply. Other people believe that drinking warm milk will make you drowsy. There is also an old suggestion that counting sheep will put you to sleep.31. The text makes us know that not getting enough sleep might make you _.A. suffer form poor health B. enjoy more C. dream more often D. breathe quickly32. During REM, _. A. you move restlessly B. you start dreaming C. your mind stops working D. your eyeballs move quickly33. The underlined word “drowsy” in the last paragraph probably means_.
