Before I read the novel, I really didn t knowanything about the author of this no vel. But after I have

5、read the no vel, I learned that the author of this no vel is Jon atha n Swift, who was born in 1667. Accord ing to what I lear ned from the book, Jon atha n Swift was brought up by his uncle.One of the mostin teresti ngquesti onsabout Gulliversto act? TheymisleadGulliverandtheyeve nmisleadthemselves.Thesatire onthemis particularlywellexpla inedby thenewbornHouyh nhmwho,hav ingjustbee nborn,exclaims,With thissortofentr

17、an ce,what mustI expect fromthe rest ofmylife!.Inmy op inion,thereisa certainconnectionbetwee nthebackgroundof theno velandthe socialconditions.Take thisno velfor example; the backgroundof the novel is based on the socialreality in En gla nd of that time.If I have the cha nee, I would like to be a m

18、an like Gulliver, because I am greatly in spired by his courageme nt and brave. Gulliver is the pers on,who travels the lands of Lilliput, Brobd ingn ag, Laputa and the country of the Houyhnhnms. I think he must have experieneedmuch during thevoyages. These four voyages brought new future to Gullive

19、r s life.The first voyage is to Lilliput. People of the lands of Lilliput are very small, it seems like the ant to us, and so Gulliver in the place is very big.The local people regard him as a mon ster. From the chapter of the no vel, we can learn that people of Lilliput are of great kindness in giv

20、ing Gulliver food and drink. While he was eating, they had prepared a platform to carry him to the capital city. The people of Lilliput, known asthe Lilliputians , are very intelligent and clever with their hands . Five hundredmen built a special woodenplatform with twenty twowheels . Nine hundred o

21、f the strongest men worked for about three hours to lift him on to the platform , and one thousand five hundred o f the Kings largest horses (each eleven and a half centimeters high ) pulled him to the capital . But he has experieneed much, not only happy things but also unhappy things. As a reader

22、of this novel, I can imagine how excit ing how excit ing the voyage was through the words writte n by the author.The n ext voyage is to Brobd ingn ag, which is completely differe nt fromLilliput.Gulliver is like a small man in Lilliput, because people inBrobd ingnag are very big, all of them are gia

23、 nts. Gulliver is clever to e please the king and the queen with his intelligenee in music. In my opinion, Gulliver is patriotic for he argued with the king, because the king laughed at his country. In Gulliver s mind, his country is very harm onio us, people are hon est and brave. No one can critic

24、ize his coun try. I admire him for this characteristic.The third voyage is to Laputa. From the chapter, I can lear n Laputa nsare certai nly stra nge people.Their heads always turn either to right orleft : one of their eyes turns in wards , the other upwards . Their main interests are music and math

25、ematics . They spend so much time thinking abut mathematical problems that they do not no tice what is happe ning around them . As far as I am concerned, their life must be very boring, because they have nothing to do except thinking about mathematical problems.The last voyage is to Houyh nhnme.l th

26、i nk the country is veryin teresti ng, because it is con trolled by horses. At first, the two horses helped Gulliver to drive away ani mals. Then, the horses led Gulliver to their house. Their house is very different from Gulliver s house; it has nofurniture and is very low. Un like previous experie nee, this time Gulliver had to lear n how to lear n their Ian guage. It is very difficult to lear n ano ther Ian guage in a short time. So Gulliver on ly had lear ned a little of their Ian guage.
