2、in britain. she is the first one who concerned ordinary peoples daily life and described them with her realistic pen. her words have pure and fresh sense of humor and give people a feeling of life with the country melody. pride and prejudice is the most famous work in her life. in this work, austin

3、expresses her own ideas about marriage from the perspective of elizabeth who was shaped as a smart, intelligent, lively and lovely girl. austin is superior in portraying female psychology, but the description of mr. darcys characters also comes to a lightspot which graces many for the whole novel. i

4、n her book, mr. darcy is a person who looks arrogant and never impresses people amicably. but in fact, he has some commendable qualities, for example, the tolerance for wickham, the meticulous care for his sister, the kind treatment for servant, the help for lydia, and the consistent love for elizab

5、eth. but all these virtues are covered by his pride, conceit and unopenness. consequently, causes elizabeths prejudice to him. the emotion between the two experiences a lot of misunderstands at first and then they produce love to each other and finally step into marriage. in the whole process, mr. d

7、她是英國第一位關(guān)注平民百姓日常生活并且用她那現(xiàn)實主義風(fēng)格的手法將之躍然紙上的人。她的文字清新幽默,讓人感受到一種田園牧歌式的生活。傲慢與偏見是她一生中最著名的一部小說,在這本小說里,奧斯丁從女性的視角出發(fā),以聰明,機智,活潑可愛的伊莉莎白為出發(fā)點,見證了本書男主人公達西先生的性格特點。雖然簡奧斯丁是刻畫女性心理方面的高手,但是對達西先生的性格特征的刻畫也成為一個亮點并為本書增色不少。達西先生是一個看起來非常傲慢,初見時絕對不會讓人產(chǎn)生好感的人。事實上他有許多可貴的品質(zhì),比如對魏肯的寬容,對妹妹無微不至的呵護,善待仆從,幫助莉迪亞,還有對伊莉莎白始終如一的愛,但這所有的美德都被他的傲慢,自負(fù)不坦

11、ished on market. it caused a new trend in england. austin brought a new improved literary world with her fresh and humor words. it was not by chance all. austin was born in a quite beautiful village where she enjoyed all the pretty things life gives her, and with her parents love, she can buried her

12、self all day in the book beside her fathers bookcase. this kind of arcadian life reappeared in her works. it was the most precious point in her works that she got out of the 18 centurys tradition and closer to the ordinary modern life. this modernity, with her wit and humor, realism and compassion,

13、elegant prose style, twist story, clever details, which made her works exaggerated romantic and dramatic novel tide and initiated a simple realism novel wind. she had a good skill that revealing substance of life in a narrow limited scene with a relaxed and witty mood, which helped to change the vul

14、gar and boring in the novel creation. she also analyzed the nature and style of current society and culture. whats more, she gave a picture about pastoral scenery and the daily life of the middle class in english countryside which have not yet been shocked by capitalist industrial revolution.janeaus

15、tin is an miracle on the british literature history. her works are handful but enough to make a person impressive, her content is simple but enough to have honest readers, her life is ordinary but enough to have an elegant end. she once had a lover named tom lefroy but she didnt marry all her life.

16、she had no prominent family or superior relative, she had no lofty ambition or shocking accident, she even had no husband or child, just walked along the 42 years by herself and left 6 books, passing her whole story by later generations. in “pride and prejudice”, elizabeth was regarded as an incarna

17、tion of austin who was so rational, observant and humorous. with an ironic tone, austin revealed disease of society and ugliness of human in a soft way. tom lefroy was considered to be an real person in life as prototype of “ perfect lover”mr. darcy. the love between austin and lefroy died with a na

18、tural death, but the love between elizabeth and darcy had a happy end. it appears that austin was really a kind-hearted, optimistic and caring person. though she didnt marry for all her life, she still had a warming heart for love and life. in movie “cold mountain” theres a sentence said by the actr

19、ess, “we shall always save a place for ourselves, only for ourselves. and then begin to love. have no idea of what it is, who he is, how to love or how long it will be. just wait for one love. maybe no one come out, but this kind of waiting is the love itself.” the same as austin, she was just waiti

20、ng for a period of love which was equality and knowing each other mutually. she thought marriage was established on the basis of equal love and she did not want to defile love for money, status or other things.her ideas to love are fully embodied in the novel. elizabeth and darcy met at a party. peo

21、ples complaint was caused by the proud action of mr. darcy. elizabeth was more resentful than others because of the disgrace comment to her from mr. darcy. in the lead of negative emotions, elizabeth had repeated debates with mr. darcy. however, mr. darcy realized that elizabeth had a pair of beauti

22、ful eyes which were so vivacious, intelligent and charming. he gradually came into loving with her. but elizabeth had an increasingly prejudice to darcy after hearing some slanders from wickham. unfortunately, mr. darcy knew nothing about his beloveds feeling, he just thought elizabeth had a favorab

23、le impression on him as he did. such a proud person was seriously shocked in a rash offer of marriage, and then, elizabeths prejudice was overturned entirely by a letter from darcy. both of them got a chance to read the other party again and rediscover the shortages of them. after many troubles and

24、struggles, finally, they fell in love and got married.in this novel, austin presented the whole story at a relaxed and joyful keynote and told us a truth which was stated by gong zhuo as“牢固的愛情是婚姻的奠基石。為了財產(chǎn)、金錢和地位而結(jié)婚是錯誤的;而結(jié)婚不考慮上述因素也是愚蠢的。簡奧斯丁通過小說告訴人們必須行動和自省才有希望,人的尊嚴(yán)絕不是與生俱來的,而是從行動和自省中獲得,透過理性的行動,把人類的王國建立成

25、具有心靈價值的模式,以與物質(zhì)世俗有別?!?countryside pastoral scenery was full of birds singing and people laughing. different kinds of people, austin gave them fullness of characters, such as benighted mrs. bennet, witty but lazy mr. bennet, goodness and fair jane, flippant and stupid lydia. all the characters are lif

26、elike and they are an essential part in this novel. austin took good use of their personality and endowed them interesting languages, which presented a huge story of love and marriage for us. it has the most thorough understanding of human nature, and appropriate description of countryside postures,

27、 wit and humor can be found everywhere, all of this showed with the most exquisite language.1.2 purpose and significance of the studyin “pride and prejudice”, all roles have lively and distinct characters. as a leading actor of all the people, mr. darcys personality is the most worthwhile studying.

28、because he looks so arrogant, people are easily deceived by the first impression on him. fool is regularly in the majority in this world. people fancy themselves as sages and think they are always right. in fact, one looks pretty and kind maybe not as good as original thought, but the one who seems

29、to be proud and insolent may have a virtuous quality. obviously, mr. darcy is the latter one. this kind of people cannot be understood easily by others except their close friends and families. they are always mistaken and never explain, but in reality, they do have some splendid qualities. people ca

30、nnot judge somebody only by surface. it is a must to dig out their fabulous virtue to let people know. the analysis of mr. darcys characters can let people know more about this role and reappreciate his respectable virtues from a new perspective. this is the reason why the paper comes out. from mr.

31、darcys characteristics, people can also know more about austins aesthetic appreciation of men. what are the qualities an ideal lover should have? what kind of the real english gentleman is to be? what about the gentlemens marriage perception? mr. darcys personal characters reflect the whole imaginat

32、ion of gentlemen in 19th century. it makes contribution to the whole story which draws the eyes of people in literary world. so it has a huge significance to study mr. darcys characters.2. the general image of english gentlemenas everyone knows, england is famous for its “gentlemen” in the world. wh

33、en it refers to the “english gentlemen”, people always think about the men who in dark and upright suit, wear a formal hat, with an umbrella or a black stick. they have superior position, advanced education, elegant behavior. they respect females and act politely, gently, honestly.the word “gentleme

34、n” in english firstly appeared in 1413, which was represented by the youth in knight or baron family to distinguish the other brothers and sisters who have an official title. in henry , “gentlemen” means the upper class and the nobility. one can parade himself as a gentleman provided that he has rea

35、l estate and he is respectable with an excellent family inheritance. in 16th century, the meaning of “gentlemen” began to have some new elements, such as land, treasure, and personal chase. a new batch of intelligentsia which was engaged in the work of law and religion, educated in cambridge or oxfo

36、rd, or successful merchant were regarded as gentlemen. in 18th century, the concept of “gentlemen” had another change. a writer and political man in irish called richard steele said that minister, merchant, and scholar should be called as gentlemen. the title of gentlemen is not depending on ones en

37、vironment but his behavior. in 19th century, people regard somebody as a gentleman according to his behavior instead of blood and badge. especially during the 60 years of queen victoria, she led england reach to the zenith and finally made england become a famous state of ceremonies. that were the b

38、ase of gentlemens bearing and the core of gentlemens culture.mr. darcy lived at the end of 18th century and early 19th century. during this period, different manners in england were formed gradually. gentlemen had a profound respect for basic requirements of manners because it partly meant their spe

39、cial national spirit. their suits must be comfortable and match the position they had and the places they were in. their characters were introverted and the way of social interaction was very humorous. they didnt like free talk, even if a casual talk topic is choosy. family, identity, age, career we

40、re considered as part of their private life, it will break their politeness principle if somebody asked. another trait of english gentlemen is silence. they would love to pick a newspaper or book when they were to go out. they wouldnt speak unless be asked. except politeness and silence, “l(fā)ady first

41、” is another characteristic of gentlemen. men do things for women such as opening door, giving seat, carrying luggage just like a normal thing. showing respect to female is a moral conformity for gentlemen.english men bearing is not only appears in dressing and action but also in language. in englan

42、d, “thank you! excuse me! sorry! you are welcome!” are the most frequently used words. hows the english gentleman ethos formed? firstly, england has a longer history than other countries in european, the rule of feudalism make the english more tolerance. secondly, england is in the relatively isolat

43、ed islands, which forms the conservative character. thirdly, queen victoria made an effort on the forming of ceremonies state. she had been highly praised in european for her elegant personal demeanor. she also cultivated the image of herself very strictly to get elegant, dignified, sedate, temperan

44、ce everywhere. victoria age was called “elegant society” by later generation. it was also the form and perfect period of gentlemen bearing eventually.3. the analysis of mr. darcys external characters3.1 initial impression of darcyas a bachelor who has a distinguished background, darcy is ought to be

45、 popular. but the general impression of mr. darcy in longbourn resident is not very good. the initial perceptions the locations have for darcy are as follows.3.1.1 smartmr. darcy appeared in the ball behind mr. bingley. theres a contrast between the two at the beginning. mr. bingley has a good look

46、and was gentlemen like with a pleasant countenance and unaffected manners. he is good enough, but his friend mr. darcy seems much better. mr. darcy drew the attention of the room as soon as he appeared. he had a good figure and handsome features noble mien, whats more, he earned ten thousand pounds

47、a year. all of this made him be admired. people praised him for his fine feature and said he was more handsome than mr. bingley. austin gave a few sentences to describe mr. darcys appearance. it is an objective description for him and its also a hint foreshadowing for later development. he indeed ha

48、s a good look, which becomes repulsive after people knowing his pride. this good look becomes more dazzlingly brilliant after making the misunderstandings out. but from a perspective of a bystander, his pride is indeed existence and awful.3.1.2 introverted and arrogantms. bennets business in all her

49、 life was to make her daughters get married. mr. darcy had glorious family, treasure, power and fine feature. he ought to be very popular in all people, especially ms. bennet. but actually, she hated him very much because he desolated her daughters. due to the different nature, some people whose per

50、sonality is outgoing in the presence of strangers can mix with people in a short time, but some people with introverted personality do not like to talk with strangers. mr. darcy is the latter one. at first in the ball, he obviously knew the scarcity of gentlemen, but he preferred to stand alone than

51、 to dance with solitary women. he knew well that elizabeth sit behind him but he still told mr. bingley, “she is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and i am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men”(austin 9). he uses “tolerable” to descri

52、be elizabeth, as if all women in the world just divide into “tolerable” and “intolerable”. as a gentleman, he knows he should show consideration for women but he doesnt want to please the woman who was slighted by others. if this is not arrogant and what is it? in fact, darcy was attracted by elizab

53、eths beautiful eyes at the first time, he initiatively loved to her gradually. he was always standing nearby elizabeth and hearing her conversation. during the time of janes illness, elizabeth came to visit her sister, and met darcy. they had several debates. darcy realized that elizabeth was so cle

54、ver and witty. he knew he fell in love with her but he delivered in a wrong way. he wanted to ask elizabeth to dance, but he only said: “do not you feel a great inclination, miss bennet, to seize such an opportunity of dancing a reel?”(austin 46)this kind of invitation make people feel that the man

55、is speaking condescendingly the woman who he ought to please. he did not be willing to please the one he loved because of his stupid pride.to wickham, darcys performance is also arrogant. when he saw wickham again after many years, he left without a word in front of miss bennets, which is such a dis

56、respectful action. he did this because he would disdain to be with wickham. but he also disregarded for all the ladies which makes his image become more arrogant. furthermore, elizabeth mentioned wickham in mr. bingleys ball , which satirized him unintentionally, but he would rather be mistaken by e

57、lizabeth than explain it. he thought time would reveal a mans heart and people would see clearly about wickham. what a proud person!3.2 mid-term impressiondarcy acted offish and alienated to all the local people expect the bennets. if there must be a person who has a real deep awareness of his pride

58、, absolutely, it is elizabeth. 3.2.1 opinionatedas a good friend of mr. bingleys, mr. darcy was very honest. because of bingleys easiness, openness, good temper, he regarded bingley as his real friend, though mr. bingley is not as clever as him. everyone in longbourn observed that mr. bingley was so infatuated to jane. but darcy thought about janes inferiority of connections and considered that she could not match mr. bingley properly. the most important lies that he did not find any affection to bingley from jane. concerning this poi
