This simple and pure love can be revealed through his action, his self-narration and his mentality, which can be best revealed in some sentences in the work.Para1

They use their untainted heart to discover some beauty from the gloomy surroundings.

Although early in the story he is depicted as part of a group of friends playing in the street, after his crush develops his separation from the others is emphasized: e.g. He stands by the railings to be close to the girl while the other boys engage

12、 in horseplay. Joyce employs the sense of smell, of hearing, of sight to present the setting vividly. The setting reveals the dreary, dark, lifeless, stagnant Dublin life, esp. the spiritual life.Para4: Portray the girl from his perspective, his eyes moves from her neck, hair, hand to dress.Para5: H

The narrator promises to buy her something at the bazaar if he goes, but it is unlikely that she takes this
