6、g as the ultimate technical decision-maker for problems or disputes.Senior drilling engineer(SDE): Daily responsibility for one or more drilling rigs, well planning, daily reporting of drilling activities, supervising the work of more junior staff members, daily liaison with the drilling contractor

7、and other service companies involved in the operation, and evaluating tenders for services.Logistics coordinator: All activities related to obtaining, storing, and shipping equipment and personnel to the wellsite and back. Coordinates land, sea, and air transports; supervises the storage yards; and

8、monitors rental equipment to insure it is returned promptly once finished.Personnel Involved in Drilling OperationsDrilling engineer(DE): Responsible for technical work on drilling programs, technical evaluations, and engineering studies; and other work as directed by the SDE.Technical assistant: Wo

9、rks with the DE to help compile reports, locate information, filing, etc.Drilling supervisor(DS): Often called the “company man”; the most senior representative of the operator at the wellsite. The DS is responsible for coordinating all drilling related activities, using the drilling program as guid

10、ance but making changes as necessary for a safe and efficient operation; instructs the rig crews via the toolpusher; ensures that safe practices are maintained; manages the various contractors on hire to the operator. Night drilling supervisor: Who will be on shift during the night(6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

It often prepare the daily drilling report for the DS to check and send in the morning(6:30).Personnel Involved in Drilling OperationsWellsite drilling engineer/petroleum engineer(WSDE/WSPE): The position is often a training role to gain practical experience.Wellsite geologist: Monitors t

12、he work of the mud loggers. Keeps a record of the geology encountered. Witnesses the work of the wireline loggers. Will sometimes determine the correct setting depth for casing strings.Mud engineer: An employee of the drilling fluids contractor. Responsible for building and maintaining the mud syste

13、m as per the program. Tests the mud properties frequently and reports the results to the drilling supervisor and to the mud contractor office onshore.Other contractor personnel: These personnel, either employed by the operator or by service companies contracted to the operator, will report to the dr

14、illing supervisor and will have responsibility for their own equipment and area of expertise. Personnel Involved in Drilling OperationsDrilling contractor: The drilling contractor owns the rig and employs the regular supervisors and crews working on the rig. The rigsite personnel will almost always

15、work an equal time systema week or a month on the rig followed by the same time off. This requires two sets of supervisors (toolpushers, night toolpushers, and a campboss) and four complete crews, two of which will be on the rig at any time.Rig superintendent: Responsibility to senior drilling engin

16、eer; may be responsible for one or more rigs.Toolpusher: The person in overall command of the rig.Night toolpusher: Usually works from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Often deals with much of the paperwork and insures that the store is kept with sufficient spares, chemicals, etc. for upcoming operations.Camp boss:

17、 In charge of accommodation and catering.Personnel Involved in Drilling OperationsRadio operator: Usually two on the rig at any time to provide 24 hour radio cover.Driller: In charge of a crew of 5 or 6 people, the drillers usually work 12 hour shifts on the drill floor. The onshift driller is the m

18、ost critical person on the rig.Assistant driller (AD): Helps the driller by preparing tools and equipment, completes some of the paperwork, insures maintenance and repair work to drilling equipment is done.Derrickman: Works up in the derrick when tripping into or out of the hole. Responsible for the

19、 mud pits and mud pump during drilling.Roughnecks: Work on the drill floor as directed by the driller, AD, or derrickman.Personnel Involved in Drilling OperationsCrane drivers: In charge of a crew of roustabouts working on the rig decks. Apart from operating the cranes, they handle other tasks aroun

20、d the rig (off the drill floor) as directed by the driller or toolpusher, and work 12 hour to provide 24 hour cover.Roustabouts: Wellsite laborers who work for the crane driver (or sometimes for a roustabout foreman). Normally people who work for a drilling contractor start their life at the wellsit
