2、herefore, this kind of systematic study ofmetaphorical concepts is suggested to make up the traditionaldeficiencies in language teaching, especially for the part of culturaland social study of the target language. this paper mainlydiscusses the importance of metaphor teaching and its relationshipwit

6、offoreign language teaching, metaphors should be explained as akind of linguistic phenomenon, and also be treated as a kind oftools for language use. what s more, with their vividness andspecial feature, metaphors can help the students form a betterpicture of the target language. thus it can make up

8、nd, society, and value systems. aspart of the content of culture, metaphor is in consistence with themost fundamental concepts of the coordinated culture and society.according to ungerer and schimid, “metaphors that haveunconsciously been built into the language by long-establishedconventions are th
9、e most important ones. ” (ungerer and schimid,119). however, as human societies develop to what they are today,they do share some similar cultural traditions, experiences andcustoms, which in consequence form the similar culturalconnotations in the metaphor concepts. for example, in chinese,the position of“上下” (“ up” and“down ) can be used as metaphors for social status.as for people with higher status, we call them“高高在上”,“人上人”,“上級(jí)
