Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems s
2、uch as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in todays world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from phar
3、maceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering. I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practi
4、cal experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding
5、 and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in
6、 a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long Into Engineering seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. I also attended a Headstart course at Newcastle University, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of
7、 the main activities was to design, manufacture and test a small crane. I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work.This year a fellow student and I were awarded 500 by the European Scholarship P
8、rize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the citys culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gaine
9、d an insight into the governments proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I als
10、o enjoy participating in a range of sports and have represented the school at football and cricket, which has further enhanced my team working skills.In my spare time I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In September I completed a 4-day expedition in the Lake District, which tested
11、my endurance but gave me a great sense of achievement. As part of the award I have been helping at the local youth caf once a week, which I am really enjoying as it gives me the chance to meet new people. I also enjoy reading, particularly books on physics and Russian history. I am really interested
12、 in computers and I am currently trying to configure a Linux based file and print server for my home network. For admission to a university in England you have to fill in a form from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). They for a very reasonable fee provide all applicants to unv
13、ersities and colleges in the UK with a way to apply to up to 6 universities (or multiple courses at, say 3 universities). Part of the form (apart from all the obvious details such as name and address), is half a page where you are asked to write about yourself, your interests and so on. Inevitably y
14、ou have to make it sound as good as possible, as youre trying to sell yourself to the universities youre applying to.I applied to the universities of Aston, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Loughborough. All for an MEng (Master of Engineering degree) in Chemical Engineering, ex
15、cept for Bristol where I went for an MEng in Computer Science, so this is tailored towards those courses. Anyway. Here it is. I dont guarantee that you wont get bored! ;-). (NB this was written in the summer of 1999, and is therefore not too current!).Reasons for Course Choice Since beginning second
16、ary school, Ive been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork Ive read around these two subjects. Because I am also very keen on Mathematics and Physics, I want to pursue a degree course that combines all or most of these. Both of my parents are ScienceEngineering gra
17、duates and they have taught me some of the qualities needed for a degree course in this field. This has encouraged me to find out about the opportunities available. Aims I have applied to several firms for sponsorship while at university and during a gap year, with the intention of getting Engineeri
18、ng-related work experience. This would give me valuable experience for the course at university. I hope to obtain a Master of Engineering degree and become employed in research and development in the oil or food industry. Eventually, I would like to do postgraduate study, and perhaps even teach Chem
19、istryEngineering. Interests I play basketball, tennis, volleyball, and I like kayaking. By far my biggest sports interest, however, is orienteering. Ive won several trophies for Andalusian and league championships, and Ive helped to organise regional orienteering events. I have also designed the dat
20、abase system for my club. My greatest interest outside school is computing. I have done a large amount of web design. I help maintain the computer systems at my fathers workplace; and I also do some part time work teaching people on a one-to-one basis how to use their computers. I like writing manua
21、ls or notes on things related to computers, and have published an article on web design in a small US computer magazine. I have written papers on the use of data-logging and other equipment for my schools science department. This year, I was responsible for laying out my schools entire yearbook usin
22、g DTP software. Recently, I was employed developing a web site and training staff for an organisation in London. When I have time I play the keyboard, and also do some sound engineering: I used to operate the mixing desk at my local church, as well as help at my parents workplace, which is a profess
23、ional recording studio. I enjoy teaching and have given weekly tuition in Maths and English. General Points Ive lived in Spain for 14 years and am fluent in Spanish. In addition, my parents work with North Africans, Middle Easterners, Americans, Spaniards, Britons, and people of other nationalities.
24、 I have gained valuable experience growing up with many different cultures around me, and as a result appreciate the difficulties of cross-cultural communication. I have been part of several Kings Kids, teams which perform music and dance all over Spain. This entailed travelling away from home for 3
25、 weeks at a time, and having to work with around 60 other people. I think that this has made me a fairly rounded person, and I therefore feel confident about fitting in with people from any culture. 29、者是10月份的時(shí)候入學(xué)入學(xué)之后進(jìn)行一年左右的準(zhǔn)備學(xué)習(xí),研究生在所屬研究室作為聽(tīng)課生學(xué)習(xí)有關(guān)的內(nèi)容,而且協(xié)助指導(dǎo)老師進(jìn)行相關(guān)的研究,指導(dǎo)老師在掌握了學(xué)生研究能力和人品以后,決定是否收該生為碩士或者是博士生。 要想得到留學(xué)簽證作為研究生,在大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)每一個(gè)禮拜的聽(tīng)課時(shí)間必須有十個(gè)小時(shí)以上,不論是研究生的申請(qǐng),還是碩士博士課程的申請(qǐng),日本留學(xué)申請(qǐng),天道日本留學(xué)怎么樣指導(dǎo)老師的決定都起到關(guān)鍵性的作用,因此事先取得指導(dǎo)教師的同意是特別重要的。 申請(qǐng)研究生首先必須得到導(dǎo)師的肯許。日本大學(xué)里,導(dǎo)師對(duì)研究生以上學(xué)生的招生有特別大的決定權(quán),如果事先沒(méi)有得到導(dǎo)師經(jīng)受的,即使你直接向大學(xué)院招生處提出入學(xué)申請(qǐng),大學(xué)院也
30、不會(huì)根據(jù)你的情況為你指定專(zhuān)業(yè)或研究室。也就是說(shuō),在沒(méi)有獲得導(dǎo)師同意下,大學(xué)院不會(huì)輕易經(jīng)受學(xué)生的單獨(dú)申請(qǐng)。反過(guò)來(lái),如果你已經(jīng)得到導(dǎo)師的肯許,再通過(guò)導(dǎo)師向大學(xué)院提出入學(xué)申請(qǐng)的話,成功率將特別之高。如果教授同意接收你這個(gè)學(xué)生,那么就能夠順利的讀研了,并且可以同時(shí)申請(qǐng)多所大學(xué)院,很多會(huì)同時(shí)被報(bào)考的幾所大學(xué)錄取,大家只要選擇自己喜歡的學(xué)校或者是專(zhuān)業(yè)去讀研就可以了。 五、教授聯(lián)系e-mail技巧及申請(qǐng)過(guò)程中需要用到的各種證明 可能的話可以適當(dāng)與教授探討專(zhuān)業(yè)心得、前景展望等話題。必須適時(shí)向教授證實(shí)以下幾個(gè)關(guān)鍵問(wèn)題: (1)自己具有相當(dāng)?shù)恼Z(yǔ)言能力,能夠與周?chē)娜苏=涣?。比如提供日語(yǔ)學(xué)時(shí)證明、日語(yǔ)等級(jí)證書(shū)等(
31、建議在赴日前達(dá)到日語(yǔ)2級(jí)水平,否則學(xué)習(xí)、打工都會(huì)遇到很大困難)。 (2)經(jīng)濟(jì)狀況良好,能夠承擔(dān)你在日學(xué)習(xí)期間的所有開(kāi)支。比如收入證明、納稅證明、已獲得的留學(xué)期間獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金等。 (3)有一定的專(zhuān)業(yè)水平。比如大學(xué)期間成績(jī)單、專(zhuān)業(yè)論文發(fā)表情況、研究成果以及上面說(shuō)到的推薦信等。 (4)家庭穩(wěn)定、身體狀況良好,不會(huì)影響你在日期間的學(xué)習(xí),比如健康證明。 (5)確定表明自己畢業(yè)后將回國(guó),為中日友好做奉獻(xiàn)的意愿。 六、如何獲得導(dǎo)師肯許 如果你有親友正好認(rèn)識(shí)你想申請(qǐng)的導(dǎo)師,或者正好認(rèn)識(shí)這個(gè)學(xué)校的其他導(dǎo)師,那通過(guò)他們介紹是最理想不過(guò)。如果你沒(méi)有關(guān)系的話也不必?fù)?dān)心,跟著以下步驟來(lái)。 (1)上網(wǎng)查找日本各個(gè)大學(xué)的網(wǎng)站,看
32、看是否有適合自己的專(zhuān)業(yè)。 (2)找到合適的專(zhuān)業(yè)后,進(jìn)入這個(gè)專(zhuān)業(yè)的研究室主頁(yè)或這個(gè)學(xué)院的員工介紹頁(yè)面,查找有關(guān)教授的聯(lián)系方式(Email、電話、通信地址等等)。 (3)察看學(xué)校招生簡(jiǎn)章并確認(rèn)自己符合申請(qǐng)資格。 (4)給教授發(fā)mail介紹自己的專(zhuān)業(yè)、特長(zhǎng)、學(xué)習(xí)、工作經(jīng)歷等基本情況,并表示希望對(duì)方能夠經(jīng)受你做研究生。盡可能在郵件中附上有關(guān)證明材料,有研究成果或?qū)I(yè)論文附上原文及檢索地址。 (5)請(qǐng)自己在國(guó)內(nèi)的教授、專(zhuān)業(yè)知名人士或者高級(jí)官員為你寫(xiě)推薦信給對(duì)方。也可以事先請(qǐng)有關(guān)人士寫(xiě)好后與申請(qǐng)mail一同發(fā)送給對(duì)方。推薦信可以是打印件,但一定要有推薦人的親筆署名及蓋章。 (6)等待教授回音。 (7)教授
33、表示想進(jìn)一步了解有關(guān)情況的時(shí)候,說(shuō)明教授對(duì)你感興趣,這時(shí)應(yīng)按時(shí)向教授索取通信地址,并將各種證明文件復(fù)印件郵寄給對(duì)方。 (8)獲取入學(xué)通知書(shū)申請(qǐng)?jiān)诹糍Y格取得在留資格許可申請(qǐng)簽證赴日。申請(qǐng)過(guò)程中必須與教授保持聯(lián)系,并在教授指導(dǎo)下一步步提供各種所需材料。 七、申請(qǐng)日本研究生兩種方法的優(yōu)劣勢(shì) 在申請(qǐng)日本研究生留學(xué)的時(shí)候,一般有兩種方法,“研究生”和“語(yǔ)言學(xué)?!?。從前面的敘述的我們已經(jīng)知道日本的“研究生”,其實(shí)并不是中國(guó)的研究生,而是指碩士預(yù)科(即中國(guó)的研究生預(yù)科,或者可以理解為旁聽(tīng)生)?!把芯可本妥x期間,跟正常碩士生一起,參加教授的課程,參加學(xué)校的科研活動(dòng),一年后參加本學(xué)校的碩士生考試。而“語(yǔ)言學(xué)校
34、”就是獨(dú)力的教授日本語(yǔ)的學(xué)校,針對(duì)于本科畢業(yè)生的語(yǔ)言學(xué)校通常囊括日本語(yǔ)教學(xué)和考研輔導(dǎo)兩個(gè)方面的內(nèi)容。很多學(xué)生就是糾結(jié)在這兩種選擇之中,今天就給大家總結(jié)一下申請(qǐng)日本的研究生和語(yǔ)言學(xué)校的優(yōu)劣勢(shì)。 1、在國(guó)內(nèi)直接“研究生”的優(yōu)勢(shì)與劣勢(shì) 優(yōu)勢(shì): (1)一步到位。用很多學(xué)生的話說(shuō),以研究生的身份過(guò)去踏實(shí),畢竟大部分的研究生可以?xún)?yōu)先錄取到本學(xué)校的碩士生。雖然像某一流大學(xué)的研究生招生簡(jiǎn)章上面確定寫(xiě)有“研究生在參加碩士生考試時(shí),不享有任何的優(yōu)先錄取權(quán)?!?。但是說(shuō)句良心話,畢竟和教授接觸的機(jī)會(huì)多,互相了解,旁聽(tīng)的內(nèi)容常常就是考試重點(diǎn),近水樓臺(tái)先得月,自然考試也會(huì)占上不少便宜,大大提高了錄取比率。 (2)專(zhuān)業(yè)知識(shí)
35、的鞏固。中國(guó)和日本的教學(xué)方式真的不一樣,雖然我在國(guó)內(nèi)沒(méi)有上過(guò)研究生和大學(xué),而中國(guó)大學(xué)畢業(yè)的論文和我考研究生時(shí)候的研究計(jì)劃書(shū)比起來(lái),簡(jiǎn)直天壤之別。日本對(duì)于專(zhuān)業(yè)知識(shí)的掌握度要求更高,學(xué)術(shù)理論的敘述上更嚴(yán)謹(jǐn),更專(zhuān)業(yè)。上過(guò)一年研究生的學(xué)生,在專(zhuān)業(yè)度上絕對(duì)占有優(yōu)勢(shì),每天耳聞目睹,從前輩身上能學(xué)到不少東西。 劣勢(shì): (1)沒(méi)有日本語(yǔ)課程。研究生畢竟是在大學(xué)院里面學(xué)習(xí),即使可以旁聽(tīng)到一些比如日本語(yǔ)教育專(zhuān)業(yè)中的日本語(yǔ)課程,其實(shí)并不是系統(tǒng)化的學(xué)習(xí),基礎(chǔ)不扎實(shí),很難短時(shí)間內(nèi)提升日本語(yǔ)水平,更有甚者,無(wú)法跟上老師的授課進(jìn)度,中途退出學(xué)習(xí)。 (2)門(mén)檻高。從中國(guó)直接申請(qǐng)研究生,并沒(méi)有大家想的那么簡(jiǎn)單。因?yàn)閺闹袊?guó)直接申請(qǐng)研究生,教授完全是從學(xué)生的材料情況來(lái)判斷學(xué)生,比如通常是211、985院校畢業(yè),日本語(yǔ)二級(jí)以上,(有的要求日語(yǔ)一級(jí)) 。托福成績(jī)80以上,大學(xué)成績(jī)平均分80以上等等。所以有的時(shí)候?qū)е聦W(xué)生特別優(yōu)秀但發(fā)了很多郵件給導(dǎo)師但結(jié)果是了無(wú)音訊。很多時(shí)候特別優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生卻被淘汰下來(lái),甚至有的耽誤半年時(shí)間才能再申請(qǐng)。 2、通過(guò)語(yǔ)言學(xué)校
