9、onthelastsundayofthatmonththrough1913.1910thesocialistinternational,meetingincopenhagen,establishedawomensday,internationalincharacter,tohonourthemovementforwomensrightsandtoassistinachievinguniversalsuffrageforwomen.theproposalwasgreetedwithunanimousapprovalbytheconferenceofover100womenfrom17countr

10、ies,whichincludedthefirstthreewomenelectedtothefinnishparliament.nofixeddatewasselectedfortheobservance.1911asaresultofthedecisiontakenatcopenhagenthepreviousyear,internationalwomensdaywasmarkedforthefirsttime(19march)inaustria,denmark,germanyandswitzerland,wheremorethanonemillionwomenandmenattended

11、rallies.inadditiontotherighttovoteandtoholdpublicoffice,theydemandedtherighttowork,tovocationaltrainingandtoanendtodiscriminationonthejob.lessthanaweeklater,on25march,thetragictrianglefireinnewyorkcitytookthelivesofmorethan140workinggirls,mostofthemitalianandjewishimmigrants.thiseventhadasignificant

12、impactonlabourlegislationintheunitedstates,andtheworkingconditionsleadinguptothedisasterwereinvokedduringsubsequentobservancesofinternationalwomensday.1913-1914aspartofthepeacemovementbrewingontheeveofworldwari,russianwomenobservedtheirfirstinternationalwomensdayonthelastsundayinfebruary1913.elsewhe
