“Translatingconsistsinreproducinginthereceptorlanguagetheclosestnaturalequivalentofthesourcelanguagemessage,firstintermsofmeaningandsecondlyintermsofstyle. 癟ranslation isacraft consisting intheattempttoreplaceawrittenmessageand/orstatementinonelanguagebythesamemessageand/orstatementinanotherlanguage. ”---PeterNewmark10. “Translationistheexpressioninonelanguage(ortargetlanguage 譯入語)ofwhathasbeenexpressedinanother language(source language 原語), preservingsemanticandstylisticequivalences. ”---Dubois13.Translationortranslatingisacommunicativeactivityordynamicprocessinwhichthetranslatormakesgreatefforttothoroughlycomprehendawrittenmessageortextinthesourcelanguageandworksveryhardtoachieveanadequateoranalmostidenticalreproductioninthetargetlanguageversionofthewrittensourcelanguagemessageortext. “泰特勒三原則”:(1)ThattheTranslation shouldgiveacompletetranscript oftheideasoftheoriginalwork ;(2)Thatthestyleandmannerofwritingshouldbeofthesamecharacter withthat oftheoriginal ;(3)ThattheTranslation shouldhavealltheeaseoforiginalcomposition. Translatingconsistsinreproducinginthereceptorlanguagetheclosestnaturalequivalentofthesource-languagemessage,firstintermsofmeaningandsecondlyintermsofstyle.(Nida&Taber,1969:12). (Thatthestyleandmannerofwriting shouldbeofthesamecharacter with that oftheoriginal.) Beingaverycomplicatedhumanactivity,itswholepictureisnevereasytodescribe.Scholarswithdifferentacademicbackgroundshaveattemptedtodefineitfromvariousperspectives.(1).LinguisticViewsonTranslationTranslationtheoristsfromthelinguisticschoolconceiveoftranslationasalinguistic activity andsomebelieve that translation theory is abranch oflinguistics,approachingtheissuesoftranslatingprimarilyfromtheviewpointofthelinguisticdifferencesbetweensourceandtargettexts.Translationmaybedefinedasthereplacementoftextualmaterialinonelanguage(thesourcelanguage)byequivalenttextualmaterialinanotherlanguage(thetargetlanguage).
