Inthepopularimagination,ofcourse,guiltstillgetsabadrap.Itisdeeply
uncomfortable-it'stheemotionalequivalentofwearingajacketweightedwith
stones.Yetthisunderstandingisoutdated."Therehasbeenakindofrevivalor
arethinkingaboutwhatguiltisandwhatroleguiltcanserve,〞saysAmrishaVaish,

doubled.TheH-2Avisahasnonumericalcap,unliketheH-2Bvisafornonagricultural

acallforgovernmentstoenactlegislationtocurbsingle-useplastics.Butthe
overarchingmessageisdirectedatindividuals.
Myconcernwithleavingituptotheindividual,however,isourlimitedsense
ofwhatneedstobeachieved.Ontheirown,takingourownbagstothegrocerystore
orquittingplasticstraws,forexample,willaccomplishlittleandrequirevery
littleofus.Theycouldevenbedetrimental,satisfyinganeedtohave
