III.Warm-up(5minutes)

1.Greetthestudentsandaskabouttheirweekendoranyrecentevents.

2.Introducethetopicofthelesson:crimeandpunishment.

3.Showpicturesrelatedtocrimeandaskstudentstodescribewhatishappeninginthepictures.

IV.Presentation(10minutes)

1.Writethetargetvocabularyonthewhiteboard:thief,robber,shoplifter,burglar,murder,kidnapper,pickpocket,vandal.

2.Givedefinitionsandexamplesforeachword,andaskstudentstorepeatafteryou.

3.Usethetargetvocabularyinsentencestoprovidemorecontextandunderstanding.

4.Askstudentstowritedownthevocabularyintheirnotebooksandunderlinethestressedsyllables.

V.Practice(15minutes)

1.Dividetheclassintopairsorsmallgroups.

2.Giveeachpair/groupahandoutwithquestionsrelatedtothetargetvocabulary.

3.Inturns,studentsaskandanswerthequestionsusingthevocabulary.

4.Monitorthepairs/groupsandprovideassistanceasneeded.

5.Afterafewminutes,asksomepairs/groupstosharetheiranswerswiththeclass.

VI.Listening(10minutes)

1.Playanaudiorecordingorreadashortdialoguerelatedtocrimeandpunishment.

2.Askstudentstolistencarefullyandanswerquestionsaboutthedialogue.

3.Playtherecordingagainifnecessary,andchecktheanswersasaclass.

VII.Production(15minutes)

1.Dividetheclassintopairsorsmallgroups.

2.Instructeachpair/grouptocreateashortdialogueorroleplayusingthetargetvocabularyandanyothervocabularytheyhavelearned.

3.Givethestudentsafewminutestoplanandpracticetheirdialogues.

4.Selectafewpairs/groupstoperformtheirdialoguesinfrontoftheclass.

VIII.GrammarFocus(10minutes)

1.Reviewthesimplepasttensewiththestudentsbyprovidingexamplesandaskingquestions.

2.Writeafewsentencesonthewhiteboardusingthesimplepasttense,andaskstudentstoidentifytheverbtense.

3.Conductabriefexplanationoftherulesandusageofthesimplepasttense.

4.Askstudentstocompleteaworksheetorworksheetexerciserelatedtothesimplepasttense.
