Itisbynomeanseasymoney.Theastronomicalsalariesareonlyenjoyedbyatinyportionofallathletes.Thecompetitionisfierce,evenbrutal,amongtheprofessionals.Togetaheadonehastoundergoyearsofsystematictrainingandeventhenonewillfindhimselffarfromsucceeding.ForeveryOlympicchampion,therearecountlessotherswhotriedalmostashardbutfailedtomaketheirnamesknown.Besides,sportisnotalifelongcareerandanathlete’sprofessionallifeisoftenshortenedbyinjuresandaccidents.Onecanonlymaintainhispeakperformanceandsalaryforacertainperiod.Theydotheirjobsattheriskoftheirhealthandlimbs.Professionsportisdemandingbothphysicallyandmentally.

However,itisalsoarguedthatprofessionalathletesasagrouparepaidtoomuchandtheexceptionallyhighsalariesfortopathletescannotbejustified.Competitionisintenseinallprofessions.Sportsshouldnotbesingledoutasparticularlydemanding.Indeedmanyjobsrequireyearsofeducationandtraining.Tobecomeanexpertusuallyrequireslife-longdedication.Butwedon’tseetoppoliceofficers,professorsorevendoctorspaidinthemillions.Inaddition,objectivelyspeaking,sportislessimportantthanmanyotherprofessions.Itservesnopracticalpurposesotherthanprovidingentertainment.Thesalaryandattentionenjoyedbyathletesareoutofproportion.

Secondly,athletesdevotethemselvesfullytothetrainingandexercises.Everyday,theydoalotofexerciseswithaviewtosettingnewrecordinthesportsgames.Athletesareapttobehurtinthematches,becausesomesportsgamesaredangerous,forexample,football,boxingandwushu.Highpayguaranteespromptandgoodmedicalcareiftheygethurt.

Thirdly,theathleticcareerisveryshort.Manyathletesretirewhentheyarestillquiteyoung.Highsalarycanensurethattheycanhaveabetterlifeaftertheyretire.Iftheywantafurtherstudy,theywillhavenofinancialburdens.

Ontheotherhand,mostpeoplein“ordinary”professionslikenurses,doctorsandteachersearnonlyasmallfractionoftheincomeofthese“stars”.However,ifwegiveacarefullookattheseprofessions,wewillfindthattheynotonlyrequirespecialskillsandyearsofeducationbutalsohelpthepeopleandthewholesociety.Forinstance,teachersdisseminateknowledgetothesociety;doctorsandnursesgivepatientsgoodmedicalcareandprolongtheirlife.Theyaremuchmoreuseful,andactuallymoreessentialtosocietythansportspersonalities.Withoutthese“ordinary“professions",oursocietywouldstopprogressing.Theirsalariesshouldrelateto
