rs.Thefirstgroupshowednochangesfromthewayoldpeopleinthatvillagehadalwaysbeen.Thesecondgroup(withtheplacebo)hadmuchbetterhealthandalowerdeathrate.Thethirdgroup(withtherealdrug)showedmuchthesameresultsasthegroupthattooktheplacebo.10Aplacebocanalsohavebadeffects.Ifpatientsexpectabadreactiontomedicine,thentheywillalsoshowabadreactiontotheplacebo.Thiswouldseemtoshowthatalotofhowyoureacttomedicineisinyourmindratherthaninyourbody.Somedoctorsstillthinkthatiftheplacebocanhavebadeffectsitshouldneverbeused.Theythinkthereisstillnotenoughknownaboutit.11Andyet,theuseoftheplacebohasbeenwellknownforhundredsofyearsinothercountries.TribaldoctorsinsomeAfricancountrieshaveknownforalongtimethatpatientswillgetbetteriftheythinktheyaregoingto.Manyofthe"treatments"theyusedonotseemabletomakeasickpersonbetter,andyetsuchtreatmentswork.12Thestrangepoweroftheplacebodoesseemtosuggestthatthehumanmindisstrongerthanwethinkitis.Therearepeoplewhosayyoucanhealyourbodybyusingyourmind.Andtheinterestingthingisthatevenpeoplewhoswearthisisnotpossiblehavebeenhealedbyaplacebo.(839words)Timetaken:____minutesPhrasesandExpressionsasaresultbecau
