Studieshaveshownthatexcessiveuseofsocialmediaisassociatedwithhigherlevelsoflonelinessanddepressivesymptoms.Theconstantneedforvalidationthroughlikes,comments,andfollowerscancreateaviciouscycle,whereindividualsbecomereliantonexternalvalidationfortheirself-worth.Thiscanfosteracultureofcomparison,whereindividualsstrivetopresentanidealizedversionofthemselvesratherthanembracingtheirauthenticselves.
Moreover,cyberbullyingandonlineharassmenthavebecomeprevalentissuesintheageofsocialmedia.Theanonymityanddistanceprovidedbytheinternetcanemboldenindividualstoengageinhurtfulbehavior,leadingtosevereemotionaldistressandevensuicidalideationinsomecases.Theconstantexposuretonegativeandharmfulcontentcanhaveadetrimentalimpactonindividuals'mentalwell-being.
